Guest guest
I think all cell phones have GPS these days. The way I understand it, there are two sorts. The free sort can be used only by emergency officials, such as the police. If you pay extra, you can track her from your cell phone if it has www. granny On Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 2:05 PM, Emileane <lemileane@...> wrote: > Way cool that it has GPS!!! Guest guest
Interesting! Josiah (19) is asking for one, but we are hesitant. Getting one would not be a problem, but he doesn't really need one. I guess my hesitation is that he would bug his 3 sibs and their spouses. He would learn quickly (quicker than me) how to use it. He has used both of his brothers' phone to make calls. Hope you have a blessed day! Shirley and phones (35, DS) has never been comfortable using the phone. Guest guest
Trent has carried a phone for many years - at first it was just an old one without a sim card and he would enjoy pretending he was on the phone. I think he was around 17 yo when we first gave it to him. A couple of years later, still with an old phone, we bought a pay as you go sim and put something like $5.00 on it, this was really for us to contact him when out with carers or for a carer to contact us. We then personalised his old phone with a new cover - Simpsons. He still carries that one around although it does not have a sim card anymore. About 2 years ago, I let him chose the phone he wanted - well gave him a choice of two cheaper ones. I knew he wanted a flip phone which he now has - our biggest mistake was teaching him how to use it! The last time I put credit on it - he spent $30 in 2 days, just phoning his siblings who at that point at time where all home with him. He did have fun though, especially when he was calling me while sitting watching tele and seeing me get up to answer my phone. I like him to carry his phone when we are out and about - then if I should misplace him I can phone him. I only top up his phone occasionally, usually he doesn't bother making calls like he did the last time. Shirley, I would get Josiah a phone, teach him how to use it properly and that his money won't last forever - only to be used in emergency. He is 19 and no doubt his peers all have phones - imo it is important for our kids to be able the same as everyone else. Guest guest
Noah, at 13 has no interest in making calls...just answering them. If I don't get to the phone before the answering machine picks up, he will sometimes answer it. It has made for some interesting conversations! While Noah is verbal, he is not easy to understand, and it's even worse over the phone. I've had people tell me they had a " nice conversation with Noah the other day. Those are the times when I didn't even know the phone rang! I frequently let him answer calls from " 800 " numbers...it usually gets them to stop. :-) As far as cell phones go, his only interest is in the camera. My camera is always 'full' when I go to use it. I have a 4GB disk in my new camera, (just gave the old digital to Noah, it was always in his bedroom anyway.) it holds about 1200 pictures...it's a bummer when he gets ahold of that! If I have other pictures on the camera, I can't mass delete, so I have to delete individually. The last time he snuck it, I had to delete 134 pictures...one at a time! I have kept quite a few of his photographic journeys ...the good news is I have a photo inventory of EVERY corner of my entire house! Will come in handy in an emergency. :-) Karla in Texas and phones > > > (35, DS) has never been comfortable using the phone. Guest guest
Karrie loves to talk on the phone, which is why she only has a play cell phone. She will talk to her dad or grandma on the phone, walking around like she's tidying up things (wonder where she got that??). Then she walks to her room and says, " Wanna see my room? " Cracks me up every time!! Once, she walked to her room, talking with her dad on the phone. She stopped in the doorway and said, " Wow, it's a mess in here!! Guest guest
also loves the phone- he gets mad when I will not let him speak when someone calls us here- my family LOVE talking to him Calls to Trent used to be free on my phone, so all the kids know how to call Trent (hubby) on my phone. I have to get a new 3g phone so my calls can be free to Trent again ( I HATE changing my phone ) and all the kids have play phones, and also dead real phones. When is older we will let him have a phone with credit- he is only 11 (OMG) so hopefully that wont be needed for a awhile as he too will phone people We don't get many calls from people we don;t know ( we have a private unlisted number) but I think next time I do get one of those cold selling calls I should give it to . My dad always laughs as asks the same questions - and he does it on the phone too- Hi- Where did it come from-Where-Why-Can I come? Guest guest
(now 24) has had a cell phone for about 5 years now - and has her own favorites to call (the sibs, the b/f, and me) and has come up with some creative uses for it... She likes to shop at WalMart... and if she brings her phone, I let her shop the store without me, and call when she is done so that we can meet up. Then, we go through all the stuff in her basket and sort through what she can buy, and what she cannot buy. Once - she had a huge stack of stuff she wanted to buy. I asked her piece by piece what they cost. Some of them were nearby and she could show me (there was not a scanner nearby), but one was a set of marking pens and she had no clue what they cost. So - I sent her to go check, since you can't make decisions without knowing how much things are. She was gone for a while, then I could see her walking back to where I had stayed.... looking at her phone and pushing buttons... I was sure she was planning to call me, so I was flagging her down... " just a minute " she tells me... and keeps mucking with the phone.... She got closer, and handed the phone to me. On it, clear as a bell - the price sticker from the shelf telling me that the pens cost $2.22..... she had taken a picture of it to prove to me what the price was!!! Yes, she bought them.... and yes, I sent that picture from her phone to me at home so I could keep it. Pretty darn innovative use of a cell phone camera, I had to admit!! ....and she has only killed one cell phone in that period of time - " death by soda " in her lunch bag.... -- Kathy mom to (24-DS) and a bunch of others.... Guest guest
has had her phone for a year and a half. She loves it. She calls her Nana in Alabama every day, Nana loves it too. Tonight she also called her grandfather. She will call me or her dad, and has been known to call me from upstairs to ask when dinner would be ready, or what we were doing. Everyone in our family has Verizon service, so all calls to and from another Verizon number are free. Thank goodness! Sharon H.
