Guest guest
MURSA You need to get her to the Dr tomorrow. They will take a culture but it will take several days to come back.. in the meantime.. she will need to have an antibiotic ointment and a sulfer based antibiotic.. very strong.. that works on MURSA. It is very contagious and as you see, recurring. You must wash her laundry separately and disinfect the tub after she uses it. Keep it covered with a bandaid while it is ooozing. Pop it as soon as it comes to a head and keep squeezing the poison out. IT WILL HURT HER!!!! It IS very painful. One of my foster babies brought it home from the hospital and it ran through our family for years... Mav even got it in his nose (where the bacteria lies dormant most of the time).. very serious. Often the Dr. will have to lance the boil if it doesn't burst on it's own.
Guest guest
Certainly sounds like a boil...are they all caused by MURSA? That is alarming. I have had a couple of boils in my life, they did go away after coming to a head and draining. Poor sweet girl :-( It must really hurt to have it where you sit! Guest guest
Sue, We are going through the exact same thing!! Kenzie (13DS) gets them too. She is being treated right now with an antibiotic. If this doesn't clear them up, her doctor wants to lance them to get rid of the " core " . She has told us to have kenzie sit in a warm tub twice a day and keep the area DRY..no more ointment. We will b back at the doctor on tuesday! In a message dated 11/27/2008 10:14:19 P.M. When I was helping her with lotion, I saw them). Are these infected hair follicles? Boils? Acne? Any clues? And what do I do about them?? Guest guest
Ramona gets these from time to time. In her case, they are infected hair follicles, she has been tested and while it is NOT MRSA, it is sometimes staph. She has learned to tell me immediately if she has any sore places on her body, and I put triple antibiotic ointment on. We've been able to head most of them off. Before she learned to be vigilant herself, I body checked her every day. I still do a full body check once a week. Just part of taking care of my girl. And thank heavens it was not a MRSA staph. Those are very hard to get rid of (and rarely go away by themselves). We've been told not to pop them by her doc. If one starts looking truly awful, I take her to the doc, but since we started with the body checks we haven't had one get that bad. And a really bad one does need oral antibiotics. I seem to know quite a few people with Downs that have this problem with their skin. mom to Ramona 25 On Thu, Nov 27, 2008 at 7:13 PM, <karriemom@...> wrote: > Sorry if this has been addressed before....Karrie has 2 very large, red, > very sore-looking boil-type things on her butt. Guest guest
I don't believe they are. I know that my daughter had a few and we popped, drained and used hot compresses and antibiotic ointment. She hasn't had them in a long time. She newver needed more than an antibiotic ointment. SHe had one we called a small planet. But I always watched to make sure that it was healing and would have taken her to the doctor if I didn't see an improvement in a day or two. Guest guest
(35/DS) is often plagued with this as well, along with a heat rash. The boils seem to clear themselves up eventually. They pop, drain and go away. She uses plain, old-fashioned Mexana powder for the heat rash, after trying everything else under the sun, including ointments and jock itch stuff. granny On Fri, Nov 28, 2008 at 6:55 AM, <Fancymom@...> wrote: > Sue, > We are going through the exact same thing!! Guest guest
gets these and I thought they were pimples. I have never done anything about them. Guest guest
I had one on my lower back and Jake did also. Mine was lanced by the Dr and an antibiotic given. Jakes was looked at by the dr who prescribed an antibiotic and said it would burst on it's own (which it did). I agree, they are very painful. Di Judge not, and ye shall not be judged. Guest guest
Well, certainly many opinions. I would at least take her to the Dr. and have a culture taken. If it's just a boil, GREAT! And if not, you can get stronger meds... even an infected boil might need antibiotics and even lancing. I know with the mursa it frequently went dormant for even as long as a year before we had a flair up. I hope you get it cleared up soon, sounds painful for her. Guest guest
gets these, too. His doctor prescribed a cleanser and lotion (durapac or something like that). I'm lucky to get the lotion on him....he seems to get these more often when he has an illness of some sort. -- cindysue@... We had another trip to the ER due to cluster seizures last night. He usually gets an illness of some sort when these occur so I had his ears and infected hair follicles looked at. His cluster seizures probably occurred this time due to diarrhea - his medicine doesn't work well when it goes through his system quickly. Guest guest
Danny gets these alot also. He has " folicular keratosis " too.The dermatologic nurse told me to try Amlactin creme. It is at the pharmacy, not a prescription but back in the pharmacies shelves where you have to ask for it (at Wal Mart at least). It works best with the keratosis on the backs of his arms and on his legs. It works on his butt too but not as well. Drawback is it has to be used every day or they come back. He has the flare ups of those large bumps too at times. He also refuses to sit in the tub and tells anyone who will listen that his butt hurts. How embarassing! I have used tea tree oil on a cotton ball (it is a good antiseptic). I recently found a gold bond lotion with chamomile that is working wonders on keeping the bumps at bay. As for treating them-bactroban and tea tree oil seem the most effective to me. I make him lay on his stomach and put a very warm, moist washcloth with the tea tree oil on his bum while he watches spongebob. It usually comes to a head and pops very soon afterward.Good luck with your treatment. Hope this may help. Tabitha

Guest guest
Mexana Heat Powder has been around for a very long time. My mother used it on my siblings and me when we got heat rashes. and I get it at our mom and pop drug store usually, but I've seen it at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Tarket, Eckerds and our supermarket. It's always located with the other bath powders. granny On Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 12:41 PM, Klem <klemm2@...> wrote: > Hi Granny, > Where do u get the Mexana from?
