Hi Reid's mom & welcome!

I am going to assume Reid will be getting a DOCband made by Cranial

Technologies? My daughter began her DOCband treatment at 11.5 mos of

age., so she was also considered " older " . Abby had severe plagio,

but we were still able to receive very good results - around 50-60%

correction in 4.5 mos time. We have had other members whose child

rec'd their band even " older " - you are right - Reid's correction

will be slower & I'm sure he won't get 100%, but any correction will

be great! I'm glad you have such a good attitude about this!

Welcome again to the group. We look forward to getting updates from

you about Reid's progress. Hoping Reid hits many growth spurts in

the mos to come!

Hi,

My daughter Katya started wearing the band when 14 months old. She

has been in it only for 1 month and 12 days. And she has severe

plagio. Last time we were at Cranial Technologies, we compared her

head to the mold and saw a little bit of improvement. Not too much,

but it was still a good news.

Good luck to you and your son Reid. I hope you will be able to get

good correction.

Leana, Katya's mom.

Hi Niki!

We are also picking up my son Dylan's helmut today (Friday). Wish us luck! I never thought the day would come so quickly. I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes for him.

Bonnie,

I think you will be shocked at how quickly you adjust to seeing him in the

band. Believe it or not we got to the point rather quickly where

started to look kind of strange WITHOUT the helmet!! Good to hear that he's

sleeping in it though - he must be adjusting well! Hooray!!

Marci,

Yes, Dylan slept through the night. I can't believe it. I guess we'll get used to him in it. The back of the STARband is so big! We have to decorate it maybe than it will look better.

Bonnie,

Wow - good for Dylan - what a trooper!! I think you will like the look of the

band even better once you have it decorated. I know that decorating 's

helmet made me feel SO much better about the whole thing. Made the helmet

look less " medical " . Good wishes for continued success!!

Bonnie,

Good news that he is sleeping in the band soundly- some kids don't adjust to

that so I think that's a great sign. I think your second guessing yourself

because you are probably overwhelmed by a sense of sadness- to see your child

have to wear it is not easy at first. I was online months before we got the

DOC band, saw everyone's cuties online and I was still not prepared for my

reaction- I burst into tears. But then reality sets in, you realize how

awfully lucky you are and that this is so minor, that you thank God that this

is all you have to deal with and move forward. It will take a week maybe,

and you'll start letting your head get more involved, and less heart. Keep

on top of every aspect of therapy- checking for signs of tightness, red

marks, irritability, progress. You have to be sure to educate yourself so

that you can spot things and ask questions that have you concerned. Some

helmets are only as good as their orthotist, so keep yours on his/her toes at

all times!! Good luck to you all and please keep us posted! Hang in there,

you'll get over the initial shock and soon you'll think he looks strange

without it!

Thanks for your great advice and words. Unfortunately, we had to take the helmut off for a couple of days because of some reddness and a slight irritation and we went back to get it adjusted today. He's back in it now. However, I have to take it off every three hours for one whole hour for the rest of the week untill the irritiation goes away. Well, now I'm going to venture out to the supermarket (the first time out alone with him with the helmut). We'll see how it goes.

I really hope he's not too old for the band. He's 8 months. I hope we see results and hopefully not a waste of time for him and us. We'll I'll keep you posted.
