Hey Dana!

How's doing after these few days?

Kendra

Re: Thanks for such a warm welcome...

I wouldn't worry about his development just yet. Sounds like he is on track for everything. My son is 8.5 mo and isn't crawling yet. He rolls, he can sit from his belly, he creeps across the floor, he's trying to pull himself up...he just doesn't seem to get the whole crawling thing. My nephew never crawled. Just got up one day and started walking. I also have a friend who had a baby 2 days after me. Her daughter makes no effort to move at all except to roll over one way) yet her daughter appears to be on track with all her other milestones. All children are different. Please try not to worry. My son met most of his milestones early but I believe his tort affected him in certain areas. To answer your question about only rolling one way...is this from back to front your talking about? My son started to roll front to back at 11 weeks. He then started back to front a few months later BUT would only do it one way. He never rolled both ways until he was 7 mo. His PT (for his tort) said that he was having trouble rolling in the other direction because his tort weakened his neck muscle on the affected side. Kids need to have strong necks muscles to "right" themselves once they start to roll over. We just continued with his tort excercises and now he rolls everywhere, both ways. I hope that helps :)Dana (mom to )Ont.> Thanks for such a warm welcome from each of you. ~ I often wonder that myself. We all thought (our ped included) that Grace was fussy after she was born due to colic but once we started letting her sleep in her car seat at 2 weeks of age she was so much happier and slept so much better being elevated. But at her 2 month check when they officially dx her with the plagio and tort I couldn't help wondering if it was because of us letting her spend her time in the car seat all of the time that made this all happen? The ped said that she was positioned like that in utero and that was what caused the tort. But the day I came home from her 2 month check and they dx her with tort and plagio was the day I stopped letting her be in the carseat, that was when the GER was dx because she became so miserable because she was not elevated. So they put her on the meds etc I only left her on the med for about a month and a half and her system seemed to handle things better but I still now kick myself for letting her sleep in that carseat so much as an infant. It is kind of like the whole which came first the chicken or the egg. Did the tort and pagio come as a result of our actions or was she that way when she came out? I guess we will never know. I am just grateful that we had a ped who dx her so early so that we could get this ball rolling and help her to help herself the way we have. That is just my two cents! and Gracie

Sending good vibes for ! I hope things get better really soon. When are you due back for a check-up?

Re: Thanks for such a warm welcome...

Hi Kendra,I wish I could say he has adjusted entirely :( Some days he is great, other days (like today) he cried all day. I know it's the helmet b/c the crying stops as soon as I take it off. I keep telling myself it's been less than a week. I hope he gets used to it soon. My nerves are shot ;)> > Thanks for such a warm welcome from each of you. Debbie, Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement. I know all will be well. Though it's all still a little unsettling to me. goes to see the surgeon on May 17th. So until then we're working really hard with the repositioning techniques. And as right now it's going good.

Thanks again

Michele

My daughter is 25 mos old and she hasn't had any developmental delays. She isn't speaking as much as I feel she should be (what else besides "no mine" does a 2 yr old NEED to say? LOL), but I don't relate that to her plagio. She rolled over on time, crawled & walked early, jumps, even catches balls (she's very physical), etc......Abby wore 2 bands totaling about 8 mos time & has been a graduate for 10 mos now. Good luck with the sleep positioned. Repositioning can be very frustrating, keep plugging away at it. ,

I'm not sure if has tort or not. If I was to guess then I'd say I don't think so. He moves from side to side quite well and he holds his head up very nice. When was 1-2 months old he had to sleep upright in his bouncy seat because he had acid reflux. I suppose that's where all of this started. I slept in the same position each night no matter if you tried to alter him or not. But I can sit here and play the blame game all night but it comes down to what we're going to do about it now. I'm beginning to deal with it a little better, now that I've found this website. :-) goes in for his 6 month check up on April 30th and then he goes to the specialist on May 17th. As of right now we're doing a lot of repositioning. Hopefully it will work. 's condition is mild and hopefully not getting any worse.

Thanks again!!

Michele

I think this plays a factor in a lot of the developmental stuff. He didn't start rolling well until about 6.5 months. He is behind our daughter in many things - mostly by 1-2 months. Of course I try not to compare them, but it so hard! My mom keeps reminding me how different I was than my brothers. I walked at 9 months, they walked at 12 and 15 months - and we all turned out "normal." Now that Dane's tort is almost resolved, he has really been advancing quickly. At CT they make a cast of the baby's head. Whenever you lay Dane's "headsicle" flat on the back of it's head, it automatically rolls to the right where his flat spot is. That combined with the tort left it impossible to keep him off that spot unless we held him 24/7 which was impossible to do with a 2 year driving me crazy and a bad back from carrying the little porker around. I have just started using a sling and that has helped a ton!Dane's mom (DOC Band 2/14)> Thanks for such a warm welcome from each of you. Michele,

If your child has tort, sometimes they have a problem using the tort side of

the body. Even if your child does not have tort, I have found that working

with them on the floor helps. I used to take and roll him from side

to side as a game, and he really enjoyed it. He eventually got the hang of

rolling to the other side. I'm sure your little one will start rolling to

the other side soon- they all start sometime! Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Dana,

Just wanted to ask, do you think the helmet is too snug for ? I just

wonder if you think maybe he's too uncomfortable? Is it a locally made

helmet? Does it seem to leave any pressure marks? what do you think?

Hi Dana,

Poor little man! Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that will start

adjusting to his new headgear or just get over that teething pain (not fun!).

Keep us posted- sending lots of luck your way! :)
