I wouldn't worry about developmental issues. He sounds like he is doing fine. Just remember that every child is different. Your son is sitting up, but only rolling one way. My twins are rolling all over the place, but if I try to sit them up they look like a blob of jello. Both of my twins have plagio, and they both seem to be develpmentally ahead of where their older sister was at this age. I had a nice phone conversation with Tim Littlefield at Cranial Technologies about this whole subject of developmental delays in children with plagio. I even found a study that suggested that children with plagio would need extra help during their school years. Tim told me that it was a relatively old study, and there is no evidence of delays in children with plagio. I have to remind myself every day of how unique and special each of my children are, and I am so thankful for 3 very different children - all of whom are totally normal and brilliant in my eyes. Hang in there.

Question: Have any of you noticed any developmental changes in your child now that they have plagio? My son just turned 6 months old and he's only rolling one way. And he's not even trying to crawl. Maybe I'm comparing him to my daughter too much. When on his tummy he holds himself up quite well with his arms and his chest is off of the floor. Then he decides to roll over and yes directly on the flat spot of his head. He sits up quite well without support too. I asked his Dr. about any slowing of developemnt but he said no there isn't any signs of that. Anyway, maybe I'm making too big of a deal of that.

Michele,

I did not notice any developmental delays with , however, I know that

there are some specialists who believe that developmental delays can be a

result of plagio. It sounds like your son is doing pretty good actually. He

is just hitting his milestones at his own rate. Rolling onto the flat spot is

pretty common if there is tort present (can't remember if he has tort) or if

the baby has developed a preference. It is very hard to keep them off of the

flat spot which is why so many parents opt for the helmet/band.

Hi Michele

My son Dylan would only roll one way to begin with but now he rolls both

ways. He did not sit up till he was about 9months. He also did commando

crawling when he was 10months. He is now 14 months walking with the

furniture but not walking yet. He is a little be later then my first son

Marcus whos is 3 and a half now. But they are all different whether they

have plagio or not. For instance Dylan is a great eater where i had a hard

time with Marcus getting him to eat anything with lumps in it. My consultant

told me that plagio does not affect development but i understand we all

worry that it may. Dylan only just started saying 'mama' and 'gone'. So i

have no worries about his development. He has a temper as well he bangs his

head on the floor when he does not get his own way, so its good job he had

that helmet on or it would be painful. (the little monkey)!!.

Take care and i know its hard but try not to worry. you are just being a

very good mommy.

Best wishes

Kerry - Marcus (3) Dylan (1)
