Guest guest
Dana: I'm not sure what to say, but all I can tell you is that the helmet should NOT cause bruising, no matter how is sleeping. I would suggest getting back into the clinic to ask some questions. Please let us know what you find out! Kendra Bruised Forehead : - ( Hi everyone, woke on Friday with a big bruise across his forehead. (I could see the print of the helmet in his head). sleeps on his face at night and the helemt is pressing into his forehead. I left the helmet off this weekend for it to heal. This morning it looked better so I put it back on him. He went down for his nap and woke with a bright red mark on his forehead. (from sleeping on his face again). I'm not sure if it bruised again, I am waiting to see. I don't know what to do. I do not believe it is the helmet alone that's causing the bruising..I think it's how he is sleeping. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions? I have no idea what I am going to do.ThanksDana (mommy to )Ont.For more plagio info
Guest guest
Hi Kendra, I've been thinking about it and maybe it's not a bruise but a skin irritation??!? It's hard to say, his skin looks discolored.( starts off red changing to a brown shade) He has eczema so it could possibly be a reaction to the antibacterial soap I use to clean the helmet (at the advise of the orthotist). Although, it doesn't look like the eczema he has had in the past. Who knows. I'm ready to throw the helmet out the window. As my MIL says " if it isn't one thing...it's another " Dana > Dana: > I'm not sure what to say, but all I can tell you is that the helmet should NOT cause bruising, no matter how is sleeping. > I would suggest getting back into the clinic to ask some questions. Guest guest
Dana - Dane has eczema too. We get that Aveeno stuff that comes 10 pouches to a box. We wet his head down and then create kind of an oatmeal paste on his head while he's in the tub. We let it sit while we give him the rest of his bath and then we rinse it off. We haven't had any issues with the skin since we started doing this. Hope this can help! Guest guest
, Were you having trouble with his skin prior to this? I have the Aveeno stuff...thanks for the tip. Guest guest
It sounds like it might be rubbing, Dana. Is it rather loose? You know, like a rug burn?? Not a good example, I guess, but just a thought! Don't throw the helmet out the window just yet! I really think you should have and his helmet checked by the hospital to make sure all is well. Don't let them shrug you off, make them understand that you are concerned and that you want answers/solutions to these problems. How is comfort wise these days? Still getting better? I hope so! ) Kendra Bruised Forehead : - (> > > Hi everyone,> woke on Friday with a big bruise across his forehead. Guest guest
Dana - Yes we have had trouble with Dane's skin since he was a couple of weeks old! Dane has a ton of food allergies. Before we got the band, we would just put the Aveeno in the tub. Now we put it directly on his head - or anywhere he is broken out. Other than the sweating when he first got the band, we really haven't had any skins issues except when he got an ear infection and he kept moving his head side to side and got a friction mark. > > > > Dana: > > > > I'm not sure what to say, but all I can tell you is that the > > > helmet should NOT cause bruising, no matter how is sleeping. > > > > I would suggest getting back into the clinic to ask some > > > questions. Guest guest
Dana: I'm just catching up on all these posts, how is 's forehead today? Has the bruise/mark cleared up yet? Have you contacted your orthotist? Sounds like an adjustment might be needed. I hope his forehead is better today & hope he's doing well otherwise. Please let us know how he's doing. Guest guest
Kendra, is doing fine, thanks for asking. I spoke to the orthotist today and he felt that it was more than likely eczema or a reaction to the soap used to clean his helmet. I've got to agree with him as the mark cleared up after I put hydrocortizone cream on it. Unfortunately, he has not worn the helmet much this week. We put it back on him again tonight..I hope he's ok in the morning. I'm not sure what to do. What if everytime we put on his helmet, he has an outbreak? I can't help feeling as though these last 2 weeks were wasted. First he couldn't tolerate it..now he has skin problems. Anyway, we'll see how it goes. On the up side, started crawling last week and has learned how to stand in the bathtub!!! AHHHHH. Guest guest
Woo hoo, !!! You go little man! ) And now the party begins for Mama! Have you considered using alcohol on the inside of the helmet rather than the anti-bacterial soap? Of course you should ask your orthotist first, but most manufacturers suggest using alcohol. We used 99% (ask your pharmacist for it), and a good hour out in the direct sunlight, and that kept it pretty clean and stink free! As long as the alcohol is completely dry before you put the helmet back on, it shouldn't cause any problems. Hope things start to go a bit smoother for you! Sending good vibes your way!
