Hi all!

I don't post very often, but read what you have to say daily. I have

learned a lot from your messages and am thankful that I am a part of

this group. It's good to know that there are other people out there

who are going through the same thing that I am.

The reason that I am writing is because I am curious to know how

often you all go to see the orthotist. My 4 month old son, Grant, has

been wearing a starband for about a month now, and the last time that

we were at the orthotist, we were told that we would not have to come

back for about a month. Is that normal? He has seen them every week

for the past four weeks. It just seems to me like they should be

watching his head more closely. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks,

My son is almost 8 months old. He gets his DOC Band adjusted

weekly - sometimes 2x/week if he hits a good growth spurt.

That does seem odd to me that you have to wait a month, particularly

because your son is so young. I would think his head would be

significantly bigger in a month and would have trouble fitting into

his STARBand.

I would think that your orthotist would want to see Grant at least bi

weekly being Grant is so young still & his head is growing rather

rapidly right at just 4 mos of age. I think a month is too long to

go between visits at 4 mos old. I would suggest that you insist to

be seen at least bi weekly just to be on the safe side.

How is Grant's head rounding? Have you noticed improvement?

I am not too familiar with STARbands, but it does seem odd that a 4 month old

would not have to be seen more than 1x a month. My son had to go in weekly

all the way from 5-8 months because he was growing so fast, but he had a DOC

band. I hope other STARband moms can shed some light on this for you! Good

luck- keep on top of your orthotist with questions and concerns and really

make him/her explain what is going on and what should be happening. Keep us

posted!

My daughter wore a locally made helmet and we went in every 2 weeks for

adjustments. Your baby seems young enough that every 2 weeks seems to be more

appropriate. Of course, if you see any problems I'm sure you can go anytime

for an adjustment. If you are concerned about the 4 week thing you might ask

ortho if you could come in every 2 weeks instead and see what he says.

Good luck!
