Bonnie,

Sometimes it can be tricky at first to get the band adjusted just right. It

will often take two or more adjustments at the very beginning to get that

band fitting just right. Hang in there though, once you have a good

adjustment those red spots will only occur when a growth spurt has happned

and that is a good thing!! That will mean that correction is on its way!!

Niki: When we took Dylan's band off Saturday night before his bath we noticed a bright, red spot on his forehead. We waiting an hour to see if it fades. It was still there even after an was hour and a half.I'm supposed to call about the reddess longer than an hour and fifteen minutes. Then we noticed a bump or bruise where the red spot was. We got very upset thinking the helmut did this. I know Dylan was playing with the TV remote (when the helmut was off) and we thought maybe he might have banged his forehead by accident with it.Since it was Saturday night no one was around to tell me what to do (the OT who does the adjusting). I left her a message and she never called back. One of the Cranio doctors called back and he said to leave the band off until I speak to the OT person on Monday. Now Dylan has not had the band on since Saturday night (8PM), I didn't want to put it bak on until the bruise healed or maybe we need the band adjusted. We don't know. Now we feel like we're wasting precious time. It seem more trouble than it's worth. I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow. Did you have any difficulty with then in the beginning? But the sweat diminishes in about 2 to 3 weeks, once the body temperature adjusts to the bands. And like Marci said, watch for any red spots that don't go away within an hour. Neither one of my twins were diagnosed with tort, but I do hear that it is normal for there to be more of a tilt while the child is getting used to wearing the band. Bonnie,

When you see Dylan's head shape improving you will know that it has

been worth it.

When we first got the band, we made an appt. with the ortho for three

days later to check to see how things were going. During those three

days, Kaylie used to get a red line, going all the way accross her

forehead. This line usually faded within 45-50 minutes. When we

went back to the ortho, he took her band off and one look at the red

line and said that her band was too tight. I had no idea! Kaylie

never complained and it had always faded. Needless to say, I was

second guessing myself throughout the duration of the STARband. It

really is quite common to need to go back to the ortho a few times in

the beginning to get the fit just right, and this is true with all

helmets and bands.

I would think if Dylan's bruise was from the remote, it would be

starting to change to a yellowish/greenish color, the way black and

blue marks usually do. Doesn't it figure he would hit himself on

the head only when the band was off?! It always seems to work this

way!

Let us know what the ortho says tomorrow!

Niki: We're going to get the helmet adjusted on Tuesday. I'll let you know what she says.

Bonnie,

Just wanted to chime in here and agree with everyone that even though the

helmet/band is fitted to the shape of your child, there are still little

irregularities that may cause some irritation to work out in the first week

of wearing it. ' ear cut out was not big enough, a red mark on the

forehead had them shave a bit, etc. Once you get past that stage of fitting,

its all growth spurts and progress from there! Good luck and hang in there!
