Just wanted to ask a question, and get a little reassurance. My

daughter Naomi has been in her STARBand for almost three months. We

have seen a great deal of improvement (not perfect, but then again

who is). We anticipate that at her check on Friday (3 months exactly)

she will graduate. I see tons of improvement, both visually and with

the STARscanner (the laser scan) that they use here in Atlanta. The

problem is that I am getting paranoid she will get flatter again. I

am so excited to cuddle her head again, but then again I am worried

that she should continue to wear her band. The orthotist has been

pleased with her improvement so far. Becuase she continues to lay

with her head to the flat side I am scared she will get flat again.

We will be having her use her band at night, just for extra measure.

Even though she has graduated from physical therapy for her tort,

some habits are just too hard to break. What do you think? Am I just

being paranoid about her head getting flat again?

Thanks

Hi :

Good to hear from you again & even better to hear of Naomi's great

improvement with her STARband! YAY! How old is Naomi again?

Regression is VERY rare after a child graduates from their band, yes,

I have heard of it happening, but it is rare. Regression is most

common in younger babies after they have graduated simply because of

how malleable their little heads still are. I personaly wouldn't

worry about it too much.

You did say that you will still have her sleeping in her band, that

is great & will drastically cut back the chances of regression. I

was going to suggest that you do have her sleep in her band before I

read you saying that was your plan!

Also, IF one or two mos go by & you swear you're seeing her head get

flat again, I would think you could get her scanned again by the

STARscanner for them to compare her graduation photos vs. the current

pictures.

So what I'm saying - is don't worry about it! We all obsess about

our child's head shape, but I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

Please let us know how her appt goes & if she does in fact graduate

(at least day wearing).

First let me say Hooray for the correction you have already seen. That's

great! I understand your fears about the flatness returning, but really this

is very uncommon. I have really only heard maybe 2 people in this group

expressing concern about this. If she is still favoring the formerly flat

side when she sleeps then wearing the band at night should help remedy any

potential problems there. If the band still fits and you feel strongly about

it I'm sure your ortho would agree to let her wear it a little bit longer.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Hi ,

I'm so happy to hear that you are seeing tons of improvement with

Naomi's headshape! That is terrific! I will agree with Marci and

Debbie, that regression of the headshape is very rare. If you are

going to be leaving her band on at night, I really don't think you

will have anything to worry about. When you see your ortho on

Friday, voice your concern and see what their opinion is. But in all

honesty, I think you can enjoy her nice round head with no worries!
