Guest guest
My son just had his 4 month check up and we mentioned to our pediatrican that his right cheek appeared to be more prominent. After examining his head, she noted that his right ear and right forehead are also more prominent, as well as noting a flat spot on the right-rear of his head. We've now been referred to a surgeon at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. I began looking into this on the web, and now I'm so frightened for our son. The thought of him having to go through all of this is heartbreaking. And, our appointment with the specialist is almost 3 MONTHS AWAY! What do I do? How do you all handle this? Guest guest
Hi & welcome to the group! Ok, take a deep breath & relax!!! I know just how frightened & concerned you are for your son's well being. I've been there! First thing I would like to suggest is for you to call the specialist's office back where you have your appt in 3 mos & request to be placed on their cancellation list. If their office gets any cancellations between now & your appt., they should call you to offer you that earlier appt.. Getting appts with specialists often take some time. But 3 mos does sound a bit too long - are there any other specialists in your area your ped. could refer you to? Next up, in the mean time in between your appt with the specialist, you could try repositioning your son to keep him off of his flat side. Check out http://www.plagiocephaly.org/support then click repositioning tips for some excellent helpful suggestions. I also saw you are located in Kansas City.....there is a Cranial Technologies location there. Cranial Technologies is the mfg. of the DOCband which is a corrective band to treat plagiocephaly. Cranial Tech is the leader in treating plagiocephaly cases. They specialize & are trained in treating plagio babies only. They offer free evaluations of plagio babies, however I am not sure if this particular clinic does free eval, there might be a charge at this clinic, you better double check w/them. I am sure they would get your son in for a free eval much earlier than the 3 mos wait you currently have. They will give you their honest opinion of your son's head shape & I am sure give you helpful tips. That KC location phone # is 816-523-1333 - their address is 6650 Troost #100 Kansas City, MO 64131. You can visit their webpage at www.cranialtech.net Really, do not get too scared about all of this. It is very overwhelming at first, but there is help for your son. Try repositioning in the mean time & I would suggest calling Cranial Tech for an evaluation if you are near their clinic, if not it would even be worth a drive. Welcome again to our group. Please let us know whatever you find out. Best of luck. Guest guest
: FYI, if you do decide to call Cranial Tech, the actual name of the KC clinic is not Cranial Technologies, it is Rehab Designs of America, but it is the same as Cranial Tech, I just didn't want you to get confused if you called there & they didn't answer the phone saying " Cranial Technologies " !
