Guest guest
Pete, Our son Ethan had a hard time adjusting to a different sleeping position too. Our doctors told us to give him tummy time and try to nap him on his stomach. We tried a few things that worked fairly well. I would nap him on a blanket in the living room or any room that I could see him when he was sleeping on his tummy. I was still a little nervous about SIDS and all that good stuff. For the first few times I had to let him cry himself to sleep (hard to watch but it proved effective). After a few days he did much better. He would fall asleep on his strong side, and after he had been asleep for a few minutes I turned his head to his weak side. I had to change his head position 3 or 4 tines during the nap, but he was getting a good long stretch while he slept. Another thing we did was when my husband was home on the weekends, he would let Ethan fall asleep on his chest while he laid down in bed. My husband would keep Ethan's head to the weak side as he fell asleep. Again he cried for e few minutes, but when he fell asleep he seemed to stay on the weaker side more than when he was on the floor. Please note that his little neck was pretty sore after a nap, but that muscle had really gotten a good stretch. My husband didn't mind " helping out " because he got a nap out of the deal too. I couldn't do this because I am nursing EThan and if I tried this he would never go to sleep because he thought it was lunch time and I have two other preschoolers at home that wouldn't let mom lay down for a minute. These are somethings that helped us, hope you can find something that works for you. Good Luck. and Ethan > Hello everyone! > > My name is Pete and I have been reading posts since early this week > when I joined. Guest guest
Hi Pete! You can get some good ideas here : http://www.plagiocephaly.org/support/ In the crib, we used a mini boppy pillow to hold our son's head off the mattress. I would recommend during the day carrying your son around in a sling (mayawrap.com or afinerthing.com) or babycarrier. It keeps him off the spot and gives you 2 free hands! We also used a Boppy Tummy Mat (on the website above). Dane hated being on his stomach except with this because it had toys on it. This also seems pretty good : http://www.onestepahead.com item# 07557 Head 'n Back to Sleep As soon as your son starts rolling, I doubt it would be very effective though. There are also some good items to check out in the bookmarks section. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Pete & welcome to our group! I see you have already rec'd many excellent replies to your repositioning post. I would just like 2nd what everyone else already suggested to you. What side of your son's head is flat? I just really want to wish you terrific luck with your repositioining efforts. I know how frustrating & tiresome it can be, but for a rounder head - it's worth it. Please keep us updated on your son's progress. I recommend taking weekly or biweekly photos of his head from many angles for something to compare to. This will show you how his head shape is improving. Welcome again.
