Got casted yesterday - anxiously awaiting our band!

I've posted once here before, and I'm pretty new, but I have a

feeling I'll be checking in with you all frequently! Our son just

turned 1 and he was casted yesterday. Our DocBand should be in 2

weeks from today. I am so anxious! Now that we've come this far, I

just want to get the band on and start seeing results. Our pediatric

neurosurgeon wasn't overly optimistic, which had us rethinking our

decision, but after seeing the orthotist at Cranial Therapies, we

feel very encouraged. He seemed very competent and also confident

that we would see results. He also gave us some exercises to do for

some slight stiffness in our son's neck. He definitely does not like

the exercises and I feel bad because he cries whenever we do them.

It doesn't seem to be hurting him, I think he's just mad. Can anyone

tell me if they eventually get used to the exercises?

I know we won't see 100% improvement, but we'll be thankful for

whatever improvement we get. The orthotist told us he'd probably

only need to see our son every 3-4 weeks because of his age and the

fact that his growth will be slower. This sounds logical, but does

anyone have any advice? Should we push for more visits? I'm very

thankful to have found this board because I'm sure we'll have lots of

questions as we go along.

Thanks, everyone!

Hi Robyn:

I am happy to hear the dreaded casting is behind you & n will

soon be on his way to a rounder head. I remember I replied to your

original post, that my daughter didn't begin her DOCband treatment

until she was 11.5 mos old. Abby rec'd 50-60% correction in 1 band

which I am very happy with! I am sure n will get some

correction while wearing his band. He's definitely not too old!

We went for adjustments/check ups to our Cranial Tech every 2 wks on

average while Abby was in her band. I would think to be safe,

definitely take n every 3 wks, at first you'll probably have to

go more often to double check everything.

Abby didn't have tort., so we never had to do any exercises with her,

but I would think he'll get used to the stretches eventually. I hope

so anyway!

Please be sure to let us know when his DOCband is in & how he adjusts

to it. Good luck!

Hello Robyn,

I am also very new to this site but I would like to reinforce that

you definitely made the right choice in getting the band! Although

the improvement may be a little slower I am positive you will see

improvement. My son does not have any need for the neck

exercises..sorry I can not help you there but in regards to the

appointments, we go every 3 weeks, actually it will be 4 this month

due to Memorial Day!!

Robyn,

Jace has never gotten use to the exercises! I found that the more

stupid you act, the better they are. Also, try putting some vaseline

on his tight neck area. This helps keep the skin soft and over time

won't pull as much. Jace also goes to PT. It's hit or miss there.

Sometimes he's great. Other times he's CRANKY!

Good luck and keep us posted!
