This is basically why we were initially denied. Unfortunately the insurance

companies are not very informed about this and have to be educated right

along with the darn doctors. Don't worry yet, this is very fightable. You can

do it - stick to your guns and document, document, document!!!

I hate to admit this but I lost my cool today....I told the girl I was sorry I

didnt mean to take it out on her but they didnt know whos tree they were barking

up....God I feel so stupid....But I am going to fight....I cant remember did you

get yours covered??? what approach did you use? When I told CT the reason she

said that was a new one that usually they deem it for cosmetic reasons....Thank

you so much for the encouragement I need it in a bad way at the moment...but I

am NOT giving up...my husband is talking to the corporate attorney at his office

tomorrow to see if he will just write a letter for us to attach to our appeal to

see if it will maybe put a little scare into them...Trisha

Yes, we got ours covered. When we received our initial appeal I called our neuro

and he wrote a letter explaining that yes the helmet was SOMETIMES used

post-surgically for cranio patients, but that it was primarily used to treat

plagio. Then the insurance co came back with well then we are denying because it

is cosmetic. So I appealed that and in their very last denial they came back

with not FDA approved. I think the fact that they changed their reason for

denial THREE times helped my case. I did not win through appeals though, I had

to take it to an external review board.

You can fight it, start with printing off as much info as you can showing that

the band is effective in treating plagio, then see if your specialist will do a

letter explaining that while it is sometimes used post-surgically that it is

primarily used for plagio.

I don't know Kim...I am gathering everything I can as back up ..We contacted the corporate attorney at my dh office and he is looking into it as well as the HR dept...they both feel like its wrong for Cigna to deny this also...I have also contacted a local TV station here asking for their medical reporter to do a story on Plagio/Bachy/Tort & what we as parents an do to help catch these things early on and I also mentioned to him how the insurance companies were treating these situation....he wants to do a news story but is out of town at the moment so I am just keeping my fingers crossed...Trisha

Their is a study that was just completed in europe that proves that

without banding children will never just get better. I will place

this report in the files section when I get it from the PT.
