Tami,

I received the same negative reaction from my daycare at first glance of the

band. It really is a little shocking when you first see it- I had looked at

all the pics online and it still didn't prepare me for seeing my son in it-.

I had to explain the entire process to the ladies and they warmed up to it

and eventually were his best supporters for wearing it because they too

noticed changes. Hang in there, your sitter will get used to it. There was

a study recently posted that stated that the helmet did not pose any brain

damage or brain growth problems. You have educated yourself to the point

that this is probably old hat for you but your sitter is still pretty new at

what's happening. Let her know as much about it as you do, including giving

her a copy of all care instructions, so she is part of the process and will

feel that she has an equally important role in helping your daughter. Your

emotions will run from happy the process has started, sad that it has,

anxious for it to be over, scared that its uncomfortable, etc. ,all of these

will pass in time when you get used to it and are more advanced in treatment

time that has passed. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks. I have had several conversations with my

babysitter today and I feel much better (and so does

she). I gave her a copy of the instructions sheet and

the business card for the orthotist if she had any

questions. I think she was relieved because the red

spots were minor and went away within a half an hour.

She was able to put the band back on without any

problems and Annika didn't even cry. My baby is such

a little trooper!

Boy, do I feel exactly like what you explained - a

range of emotions that are all coming faster than I

can deal with them. But it really helps to

communicate with all of you. I'll keep you posted on

the emotion of the day!

Thanks,

Tami (mom to Annika)

Tami,

I think your mom sounds like a perfectly WONDERFUL person!! Follow that lead

and don't worry about the babysitter. She is worried because it is new and

different. She doesn't want to get it wrong for you and for Annika. Don't

worry, she will adjust (the babysitter) and when she starts seeing

improvement she will be right behind you!!

Sounds like Annika is doing GREAT and that is what really matters. You are

doing the right thing. I have NEVER heard of any babies developing

development problems from the band.

Hang in there - you are doing the right thing!!

Marci,

Thanks! Yes, my mom is great! I actually called my mom

last week and had her call my babysitter (they are

best friends). My mom said that the babysitter was

doing much better after she saw that Annika was

adjusting to the band. The babysitter was concerned

because Annika did not have an appetite and was fussy.

But Annika is a little trooper and is much better.

Thanks for your words of encouragement.

Hello! My son's band fit the same way at first. He had bossing on his forehead and they did say it couldn't be cut or adjusted any higher or over the brow because it wouldn't be as effective. As her head grows and starts to correct it will begin to fit better. We noticed it "not being quite right" each time we had it adjusted until we were about a month into it. As long as you don't have a lot of redness or irritation, I'm almost sure it's fitting the way it should. I would still ask about it at your next appointment.

Hey everyone! Nikki got her Starband on Friday. We have been working on gradually working her into wearing the helmet. I have one question though. Her helmet seems to not fit quite right. She's not having any red spots or irritation, but it seems to come too low on her eyes. We are trying to correct some bossing on the forehead and browline, so I'm wondering if this is why it's so low. My fiance seems particularly concerned about this. Any thoughts??? Also, pics of Nikki are coming soon!!! Sam (mom of Nikki 7 months old banded on 1/25/08)
