Guest guest
hi everyone. WRAL in Raleigh, NC is coming on Wednesday morning to talk to me and get some footage of emma in her DOC band. i contacted them asking them to do a story on plagio. i was hoping that this would be a way to inform people and get the word out, and perhaps with this knowledge other people can prevent having to go through what we're going through with emma. i feel this is especially important because although my husband and i will struggle to pay for the band, there are people for whom this would not even be an option. had i known 5 or 6 months ago what i know now, emma might not have to spend the scorching NC summer in a hot helmet. since i'm no expert (although i sure know a lot more than i did a few months ago!), i thought i'd check with all of you for things to try and highlight. i'm sure they'll only use a minute or two of what i say, so i want it to be worthwhile. i want to stress that: · parents need to be made aware of what plagio is · parents should alter their child's sleeping position · there has been a huge increase in the number of cases of plagio since the introduction of the Back to Sleep campaign · tummy time is important not only for strengthening muscles, but also for preventing plagio · time in infant carriers, swings, bouncy seats, etc. should be limited · babies with torticollis are at an increased risk for developing plagio · many, many doctors ignore the signs of plagio and tell parents things like, " it will round out on its own, " " no one is completely symmetrical, " " she can grow her hair long, " etc., and i have read too many heartbreaking stories of parents who trusted their doctors but never saw any correction, and then the child was too old for treatment · there is an effective treatment - even though many doctors seem to be opposed to banding · most of all - this is something that is possibly preventable please send me more ideas! thanks so much! amy mom to emma (born 9/24/01) (DOC band 5/6/02)
Guest guest
Sounds like you have GREAT ideas for the interview. The only thing I might add is that cranio is sometimes mistaken for plagio and that it is important to have your baby checked for cranio before starting treament for plagio. Good luck and make sure you tell us how it goes. Marci (mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hi Amy I wish you lots of luck for Wednesday. It sounds like you have everything on the list. I agree with everything you have put. I think the most annoying thing is that it is preventable and so annoying when Doctors/Ped tell us " it will round out in time " !! that makes me so mad!! Again abslolutly super news please keep us informed to how it goes and i am sure that Emma will be a " star " . best wishes Kerry - Marcus (3) Dylan in second DOCband (16months) Calgary,AB >From: " amy_coppedge " <amy_coppedge@...> >Reply-Plagiocephaly >Plagiocephaly >Subject: need advice for tv interview >Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 17:49:14 -0000 > >hi everyone.
