Here are some pictures of Aileen. Only some pictures show her asymmetry. What do you think? It is nice to come here for honesty, and I don't want to go pointing it out to friends and family and making it more noticeable! It is just that we got the band so we can go on with our lives, know we did the right thing, and not be staring at her head forever. Well, here I am a week of her out of the band, and am having the horrible feelings I had in the first place. I just thought it would be rounder in the end. I am a person who worries to much in the first place, and always need things to be "just right", so I don't know if that is the problem and I just need to relax or not. I am more worried about the facial asymmetery than the remaining flatness I guess. You all are wonderful. We are so against a 2nd band. She is was 14 mos. old on May 7. She got it at 9mos 3weeks. Guest guest
Dear Shiela, I think Aileen is gorgeous!!!! Please know in your heart that she is perfect in every way and you are correct in your thinking that your pointing out to family and friends will not only make it more noticeable to them, but also to HER. Babies/kids pick up on everything and if you believe there is something "wrong" with her, then so will she. Society places enough ridiculous stigmas on people, don't follow that habit, she needs you to KNOW and convey to her that she is perfect in every way, that will give her the confidence in life to face anything. Babies feel everything their parents do, that is how they get their clues on how to act and their attitudes, so let it go. I am not indicating that you shouldn't monitor her head for asymetrical changes and follow up care, just don;t obssess about it. Like the song says, worrying is like trying to solve an algabreaic equation by chewing bubble gum. So. it would be my advice to go on with your lives and KNOW that she is the beautiful little person you've known since she was in your belly. Have faith that you are a GREAT MOM and doing your best job for her, everything else will fall in place. Marie Horn <shedanhorn@...> wrote: Aileen graduated May 13th 02. Guest guest
Sheila, I think Aileen looks great. My little Sam has only 1 or 2 days left in his band and he looks about like Aileen. I know it's not complete correction, but he looks so much better than many of the kids I see running around at the mall or at playgrounds. As moms we tend to want the very best for our children, and we must realize that we have done the very best - for both Aileen and Sam. No one looks at a child as much as his/her mother, and no one will ever think there is anything wrong with your child. You can go on with your life, knowing you did the right thing, and stare all you want at Aileen's pretty little head! Guest guest
Sheila, Wow - Aileen looks wonderful!! What a beautiful baby! I personally think she looks really great. The facial assymetries aren't noticable in my opinion. I know how hard it is to move after this. My daughter started at 9 months and ended at 15 1/2 months so our timing was about the same as yours. does have some residual ear misalignment and some slight assymetry, but we have adjusted to it and really I am the ONLY person who notices it. It's hard to move on after such an emotional committment, but that comes with time. Hang in there! Marci (mom to ) Oklahoma
