Guest guest
Hi everyone! Well, our son n got his DocBand yesterday so hopefully we're on our way to some noticeable improvements! He's 12 months, 3 weeks and I so wish we had known about any treatment options sooner! I definitely feel like we're doing the right thing, though, even with the late start. I've been so amazed that it hasn't really bothered him at all! He cried very briefly the first couple times we put it on, but since then, no tears at all. And he took a nap in it yesterday, then slept all night - no problems. He hasn't even taken it off, which we were a bit worried about since he's a little older. The orthotist explained the " pink spots " we might see and what to look for. So far he has had some pink spots, but they seem to fade pretty quickly when the band is removed and there doesn't seem to be any chafing or irritation to the skin. Can any of you tell me what you noticed the first few days as far as pink or red spots? I feel pretty confident that n's are nothing to worry about, but am just wondering about any of your kids' experience, especially with a band. Also, are there any of you who have had an older baby in a band who can tell me how long it was before you started noticing any improvements? I know it will take longer, but now that we've gotten started, I'm just so anxious. And I'm sure it varies by individual child and their growth spurts. Thanks everyone for welcoming me to your community!

Guest guest
Robyn, Yeah for n! Be sure to wipe away the sweat for the first couple of days every couple of hours- this could cause a heat rash while his head is adjusting to the new temp. You will see pink spots that should go away fairly quickly, and red spots may linger a bit but if they are gone within an hour, its fine. Keep an eye on the ear cut outs and make sure the fit is ok. Don't hesitate to share any concerns with CT- they were very accomodating with us- and a red mark that was a dot on his forehead bothered me to the point I had her shave a little off that spot- so make sure you speak up about anything that worries you regarding comfort for n. We want those round noggins but we don't want miserable babies either- cuz you know a miserable baby is a miserable mommy! Good luck and please keep us posted! Guest guest
Leana, I hope that with time you will start to see those growth spurts start happening for Katya again soon. I think you are approaching this with the right attitude and realize that although the growth may have slowed down, it doesn't mean there isn't more to come!! There is still plenty of time left for lots to take shape Good luck with it and please keep us posted! ' Mom
Guest guest
Hi, my daughter was banded at 14 months old. She has been wearing the band for 2.5 months so far. She has severe plagio, and so far I didn't notice a lot of change. Her head has been always in 90% and I am afraid it is not growing now. The CT specialist was saying that she saw some rounding first 1.5 months, but since that time we didn't see any change. I am sorry if I dissappointed you, but your son is younger and it is really very individually. I don't regret we started this process and I try not to lose any hope. More than that, we will probably go for a second band since we still have some time untill Katya is 2 years old. She is a beautifull little girl and it is a shame that I overlooked this problem (I had no idea there is a name for this - " plagiocephaly " . I thought it was a very common problem in infants and would go away with time). Anyway I wish you lots of luck and great improvements very soon. Please keep us updated. Guest guest
It sounds like n has made a smooth transition into wearing his band! That's great . My daughter began her DOCband treatment at 11.5 mos of age. I noticed improvement in Abby's head after 10 days, it was slight improvement but improvement! After a month I would say we really saw noticeable changes . Don't worry about his " late " start. I'm sure he'll get some good improvment - Better late than never right?? As for the pink spots, as long as they fade w/i an hr after taking the band off, they are fine. The first couple wks you should keep a close eye on red spots, but it sounds like n's are just fine. Pink areas are common throught many babies treatments. Here's hoping for some great growth spurts over the next few mos! Keep us posted on his progress. Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI > Hi everyone! Guest guest
Hooray for n! Sounds like he is doing really well in his new " hat " ! You may notice some pink spots that fade rather quickly at first - as long as they fade within the hour you have the band off there is nothing to worry about. If the spots are red (or pink) and don't go away within an hour then don't put the band back on and get to the ortho for an adjustment. Good luck and here's hoping for some BIG growth spurts!!
