Yes, this was us. Everything has happened so fast. I got a call from the CBS 11 medical reporter last Wednesday afternoon. I spoke with her for a few minutes about doing a story on plagio. I told her that my twins were nearly done with their DOC bands and that Sara would be having her exit cast on Monday. I left on Thursday to go out of town for the weekend. They called me Monday morning and said that they had arranged everything with CT and they would be filming the casting. We showed up to our appointment and there they were with cameras and all. She had just finished interviewing a well-known craniofacial surgeon in Dallas and wanted to film Sara's casting and Sam's final adjustment. She had to get back to the station, so she didn't even interview me. She called me at 11:30 this morning and asked if I could meet her at CT at 12:30 for an interview. Yikes! I need a haircut and a 30 pound reduction!!! My kids were in the tub, I wasn't dressed, and no one had eaten lunch. Oh well. We made it and did a quick interview. On my way home I thought of so many things I could have said. I really don't think she got the connection with Tort, but we definitely talked about the need to educate young mothers. She also called Cigna to ask them why they don't pay for reconstructive procedures. I'm laughing now. The story will air tonight or tomorrow night (Weds or Thurs) on the 10:00 news on Channel 11 in Dallas. She said the story might go national, but I'm not sure what that means. I'll make another post when I have details. Anyway, Sara's exit cast was a very good experience. I was very apprehensive about it, but it went very well. She is very dramatic and can scream VERY lound, but she did great. She cried some during the first part, but when she sat up, she started sucking her thumb and playing with the noisy toys we had. I needed to have this cast done for my own peace of mind. I'm very concerned about regression, and now I have something to compare Sara's head to. Did I mention that Sam graduated today as well? He still has a flat spot behind his ear, but he simply outgrew his band. It doesn't matter. He is so darn cute!!! Guest guest
Gail: You totally cracked me up about needing a " haircut & 30 lb reduction! " ..LOL. Wow, I guess everything really did happen extremely fast for you with this! But what terrific news . I wonder if when they told you it could go national if it would be on like CBS evening news or distributed to other local stations? That would be great. Let us know what you think of the story after it airs. Even more terrific news, both Sara & Sam are graduates!!! Congradulations! Also happy to hear Sara handled the exit cast pretty well (those thumbs are life savers aren't they, does she take a blankie too?). It is good to get an exit cast done, esp. when you're worried about regression. I'm happy to hear that the TV reporter also called Cigna hehehehe. I would've loved to hear their response. Sounds like you've had a very hectic week....relax & enjoy the news tonite. Congrads again Sara & Sam. That's a definite yes on the blankie, or anything else she can snuggle with like Mommy's shirt, hair or Sam's toes. These babies are just so darn cute - I can't stand it!!! I'll let you all know what "going national" means whenever I find out. I'm guessing that they will just share the story with other CBS affiliates, but could you imagine Sara, Sam and Dan Rather? I really think you guys are doing a commendable job getting the word out. And congrats on your two cuties graduating, it sounds like it was a banner day all around!!! Congratulations on Sam and Sara. I am so happy for you. How long did they actually wear the band. Was their head shape mild to moderate? Guest guest
, It was not on last night - at least that's what my hubby said. I went out and played volleyball and had a little fun of my own for once. It should be on tonight, but I haven't heard back from the reporter yet. I'll try to let you know in time to see/record it. Sam and Sara both had mild tort with moderate/severe plagio. Sara wore her band for only 6 weeks and looks great. Sam wore his for 7 and simply out grew the band before getting complete correction. He still looks pretty good, but I haven't ruled out putting him in another band if Cigna somehow comes through and pays for these bands. Cigna is supposed to make a decision no later than this Friday, which happens to be the day we have our follow-up appt with the specialist, so if they pay, and if we get a script for another band, then Sam's scheduled exit cast on Tuesday will be changed to a casting for another band. Yikes! There are so many "ifs" I'm about to go batty. Oh wait, I'll already batty. Gail Re: On the news in Dallas Gail, Was it on last night? I had family record it.
