Guest guest
Hello group! Long time no talk! My son graduated about 10 months ago from his STARband and is doing great. I am still listed as the PA/DE rep for the CAPPS site and once in awhile I come across someone needing info I can't provide. I am not familiar with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia since my son was seen at A.I. DuPont in Wilmington, DE. Anyway, I have a person who contacted me. Her daughter is just 7 months old. She has been fighting for a referral since her daughter was 4 months old and the ped told her the head would correct itself...so needless to say it didn't and she is finally seeing Dr. Linton Whitaker at CHOP - her daughter had the CAT Scan today and is going on Monday - (Tomorrow) for the Casting/Measurements for the helmet just in case the sutures are not closed. My question to the group - has anyone had a child at age 7 months go through the casting - how did you keep your baby calm and yourself! Also, can I give her some success stories about the bands working at 7 months or beyond? Please get back to me as soon as you can since her appointment is tomorrow. You can e-mail me directly at sgib2001@.... Thanks for such a wonderful group!
Guest guest
, Seven months is a GREAT time to start! My daughter was casted at 8 1/2 months and got her helmet at 9 months. It worked great for her and she was young compared to some babies here who started at 12 months and beyond! The casting wasn't fun, but she did really well and the process was short and sweet. My best advice would be for her to take someone with her - she won't want to do it alone if she can avoid it plus the older the baby the stronger they are! One of our moderators is from Philly so she might be able to provide some more specific help. If she has internet access you might point her this way - this group is a Godsend. Guest guest
I tried to send this to your personal email account, but it kept getting sent back to me. I hope you come here to check out any messages. And if you get multiple mailings of this, I apologize! Hi ! Its good to hear from you again! I am in Philadelphia, but my neuro was at St. 's Hospital for Children. I don't have any words of wisdom about CHOP from a personal standpoint, but I have heard through others that it is a really good place to be. My twins were about 7 and a half months old when they were casted, and I have to say it was pretty rough, but only because I had to tend to my older two kids as well. I definitley recommend that she takes another person with her for the casting, and find a sitter for any other children that she might have. Have her bring a pacifier, a bottle, maybe a new toy to distract her daughter with. Gosh, its been so long that I can't remember what all we brought with us. Just be sure to remind the mom that the casting doesn't hurt her daughter at all, and it will be over relatively quickly. By the time Kaylie and Danny received their helmets, they were around 8 months old. Kaylie had mild plagio, and Danny had mild/moderate brachy. ANd to be honest with you, I couldn't be happier with the results that we have seen! I guesstimate that we have gotten 85-90% correction!!! We have a lot of parents at our group who have banded their child even later than this and have received wonderful rounding, it just isn't as quick coming as those whose child starts younger. Wish this mom luck from me, and please tell her to feel free to contact me at anytime if she would like. How are things going for you and ? I hope all is well with you and your family!
