My son, , was born on January 11th. At his 4 mo. appt. last

Friday, the pediatrician was concerned about his flat head and

referred us to Cranial Tech in Atlanta, where we live. I called

Cranial Tech first thing yesterday morning to schedule a casting

appt.

and was surprised to learn that they need pre-authorization from my

insurance before scheduling an appt., and it could take up to a

month!

My insurance is Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program

(PPO).

Anyone had experience with that insurer? Should I be concerned that

will likely be 5 mos. old before his casting appt. and 5 1/2

mos. old before the DOC-Band is ready? Anyone had experiences with

Cranial Tech in Atlanta? How far in advance do I need to schedule

appts.? 's Law--I've learned they don't schedule appts. (other

than castings) on Fridays, which of course is my day off! Will

be up for returning to daycare after his appts., or

should I schedule them for the end of the day? Thanks in advance--

Hi Holly & welcome to our group!

Cranial Tech MIGHT go ahead & schedule 's casting before they

have insurances pre-authorization IF you sign a form saying you'll

pay for it IF your insurance does not. They will most likely need a

payment from you as well before they cast him. If you don't want to

wait for ins. to approve it, you might want to discuss this with

Cranial Tech..

If you decide to wait til insurance approves it, 5.5 mos old is still

plenty young enough to get great & fast correction! Don't worry

about that for a second. You are right, the younger you begin the

better, but is very young still.

Also after adjustments are made - will be happy as usual. The

only thing Cranial Tech does at your adjustment appts, is look at the

band to make sure it is still fitting properly. If it is not fitting

right, they will simply take the band & shave away some of the inside

foam. They don't do a thing to his head really other than look at it

& touch it. I'm sure won't care for a second. As for

scheduling, CT is very flexible, we made our appts 2 wks in advance,

but they could usually get us in if I had to reschedule. I went to

the Chicago clinic, they were wonderful!

The only time will get upset throughout this process is for

the casting process. Casting does not hurt the baby at all, it just

scares them as they have to be held down & have their face covered to

protect their eyes from getting the cast plaster in them (they do cut

out holes by the mouth & nose).

Welcome again to the group! Please feel free to ask us any

questions. Good luck with your ins..
