Well, Annika was fitted yesterday for her Docband.

She didn't really like it, but by the time we got

home, she had completely forgotten that she had it on

and was back to her smiley self. My mom was waiting

for us when we got home and she was so good about it.

My mom didn't think even bat an eye and just picked up

Annika and started playing with her like there was

nothing different. Last night we left the band on

until 7:00 p.m. and then took it off while she slept.

She woke up in the middle of the night and I stared at

her and just kept thinking " am I doing the right

thing? " I hope this isn't causing some other harm to

her. All kinds of paranoid thoughts ran through my

head - like learning difficulties and brain damage

from the band. I know that's crazy but has anyone

heard of any developmental problems as a result of

wearing the band?

Anyway, when I woke up this morning, I put the band

bank on her. I had decorated the band last night

while she slept. This morning Annika was fascinated

by her band (with balloons & candle stickers on it) in

honor of her first birthday next week. She did so

good this morning and didn't cry when we put the band

back on.

On my way to work I thought " you know this is not

going to be that bad " and I was feeling better. That

is until I got to the babysitter's house. Now you

need to know that my babysitter is a close family

friend (like my second mom) who I have known since I

was 2. Anyway, her reaction was much different than

my mom's reaction. She was very apprehensive about the

band. I showed her all of the skin check requirements

and then found myself trying to convince her that

Annika was going to be okay. I am just so upset now.

I just keep trying to tell myself that that is a

normal reaction and that in the end this will be

better for Annika.

Anyway, I needed to get out these emotions. Thanks for

letting me ramble. This group has been so helpful

throughout the whole process.

Tami (mom to Annika)
