Regression?

Hello. My son is almost 20 months, and wore a helmet for 9 months. We

stopped therapy 2 days ago with OK results. I would be fine with the

results as long as I knew it would never get worse than it is now.

Does anyone know if it is possible to regress at 19 1/2 months old.

Also, his hair is barely in, and when his hair gets thicker and

courser, will it mask some of its abnormalities? Thank you for any

responses. I think that I am driving myself batty. Lori.

I think by 19.5 months the childs head suctures have nealy closed and

its very unlikely to see regression but maybe not much improvement

either. My daughter finished treatment at 18 mths and her head stayed

nealy the same another 18 mths later. She now 3 and only I can tell.

Hi Lori:

Congradulations to your son on his graduation. I am sure after 9

mos. you are happy to be done with it all.

Regression is VERY rare. The odds of your son's head regressing is

VERY VERY VERY low seems how he is so " old " and his sutures will soon

be closing in his head. I would imagine he also doesn't stay in one

position while sleeping at night and is very rarely lying on his back

for long periods of time. Regression is most common (although VERY

rare) in younger infants as their heads are still very malleable.

But in my 1.5 yrs on the board, I've only heard of regression maybe 3-

5 times out of many many parents.

I would also say as his hair comes in, that will help hide any

remaining flatness.

Glad to hear he is done! You should relax now - I'm sure he looks

great!

I'd agree with . It's very unlikely (less than 1% of babies

who wear DOCbands regress), but it can happen, so if you're worried

about it than it won't hurt to use some prevention tactics. My

daughter was one of the odd balls who did regress, and she was older

at 11mos, never had tort, and didn't sleep on her flat side. They

don't really know why it happens with some babies. It was obvious

in our case though after 3 mos and she was rebanded 4 mos after

graduation.
