Guest guest
Hi there.. I live in Burlington, Ont. and my son also has plagio. Firstly, I am not aware of any doc band clinic in Toronto. As far as I know, the closest one in Canada is Calgary. My son is recieving helmet therapy through the Hosp. for Sick Kids. He was first assessed through the Cranial Facial Dept. at HSC by Dr. after my ped. made the referral for us. The # is (416) 813 6013. Dr. confirmed what we already knew....he had moderate plagio. Afterwards, he was prescribed a helmet and sent to the Othotics Dept. (at HSC). He is being monitored by Art Street (416) 813 7073. Art is the orthotist who casted my son for his helmet. I find him to be very informed on the subject of plagio. The helmet cost is $550 and was covered by my insurance. (not OHIP). Depending on the age of your twins...you should see excellent correction. My son was almost 9 mo when he started and we have seen some good correction thus far. My advise for you is to get your dr. to make a referral to sick kids as quickly as you can. If you have any other questions, you can email me directly at dsmith001@.... Good luck... Dana (mom2) Ont. > I live in toronto. I have twins with positional plagiocephaly. Guest guest
Hi & welcome to our group! I see Dana has replied already with some very helpful information in your area! I hope that will help some. The only 2 Cranial Tech locations in Canada are in Calgary & Edmonton. You can check out their webpage at www.cranialtech.net for the list. Would you mind giving us some more of your twins' plagio stories....their age, etc....... Welcome again, we look forward to getting to know you more. Guest guest
I have a few questions that some of the other parents may be able to help me with: - are travel expenses tax deductible? - do any airlines provide discount fares for medical treatment? - are there any doctors in Quebec or Ontario who treat plagiocephaly? Travel expenses are tax deductible and there are ways to get cheap air fares!!! Go to http://www.plagiocephaly.org/support/traveling_for_treatment.htm for tips. There are 2 facilities in Ontario that provide helmets. One at the Sick Kids hospital in Toronto, and one in Ottawa. I don't have any #'s for Sick Kids, but the clinic in Ottawa is (613)737-7350. I know the Ottawa band is similar to the DOC Band (maybe a STARband?), but I don't know anything about the TO helmet. The STARband is also an option. If you can find a doctor to write a prescription, and and orthotist to take on the task, then treatment can be available locally. If taking this route, it is important to interview the orthotist and ask lots of questions. Make sure this person is willing to take this treatment seriously, and learn all that s/he can, otherwise treatment can fail. Go to www.orthomerica.com for more info. There are also DOC Bands available in Alberta, and another helmet program in Vancouver. Glad you found us! I hope I've been of some help! Guest guest
Hi, MY son was diagnosed with plagio over a year ago. He was 7 months at the time and recived his helment when he was 9 months. The therapist at our Childrens treatment center referred us to The Plagio clinic at Sick Kids Hospital in TO. We saw Dr Forrest and at the Ortho clinc Art Street took care of the helment part of it. The helment worked wonderfully for an am pleased with the results. Before my son was actualy diagnosed with Plagio my family doc ignored it, keep saying it was normally. Well I knew it wasn't normally I have 4 other children before and this was not normal to me. I did my reasrch on the net and found a wealth of info. I don't know what I would have done if it wasn't for the web. Armed with info I went back to my family doc who was inpremsssed he referred me to a Peditrician but I was not satisfied with that and by that time was with the Childrens treament center who did the referral to Sick Kids anyway. To make a long story short Sick Kids and the spaecialists there are the best! Sue L in Timmins Ontario Canada
