I have a question for those parents who have already had their children

in DOCbands...when does the stinky head start?

It's hard to say. Sara's head started stinking by the second day. Sam's didn't stink until the last week he wore the band. Believe me, you'll know when/if Mackenzie's head starts to stink!

Dane's haed never got very stinky. It was nothing I noticed unless

I took off the band and gave it a good whiff up close. We didn't do

anything special to it. I guess we were just lucky.

Our stinky heads started about a week after the twins were wearing

their bands 23 hours. On really hot days though, I only had them

wear their bands 22 hours, and cleaned their bands and shampooed

their heads twice a day. Plus, with the okay from my ortho we used

cornstarch on the inside of the band to help absorb the sweat. This

tings really helped cut down on the smell.

We didn't really get the stinky head so bad either- but like when I

went up close it was there and some days (very few) I could smell it just

taking it off. If you really clean it well with alcohol and let it dry in

the sun, the smell should be minimal. And like other parents have said,

using a good smelling shampoo that you put in at the start of the bath and

let sit for awhile should help out as well.

Our son's head was really smelly but only when we took off the band or

if we really got our noses close to the band. He pretty much just

smelled like hockey equipment all through the treatment. We never

figured out how to get the smell down. He is a grad now and smells

great again.
