Guest guest
Rhonda, Did you just go to your grocery store and ask them for suet? Is this something they will know what I'm asking for? I got nothing but a really weird look when I asked for tallow. They didn't even know what I was talking about. Maybe I could go to a butcher, or meat processor? Could you tell me exactly how you rendered it? I'm afraid I haven't gotten very good instructions. And I guess the #1 question: is it worth your trouble? Is lard as good? I just want to make the best bar of soap that I can; it just seems some of the ingredients aren't easy to come by!!! Thank you so much for your help, Kris

Guest guest
Hi Kris, I just wanted to say that if you go to a local butchers usually they will just give you there suet( yes you need to use this word). do not tell them its for soap ( this means selling it ) but tell them its for the birds and they usually gladly give you all you want. .. Guest guest
Dear Kris, I just went to my local grocery store and asked them for suet. They said, that they would collect it all day for me and grind it. Make sure they run it thru the grinder for you. It wasn't difficult to render. As far as the soap quality goes and was it worth it question.......I do not know as of yet. I have only made three batches of soap, two with tallow and one without it. I will know is about 6 weeks when the bars are ready to be used. I will let you know. Sincerely, Rhonda
Guest guest
Rhonda, Thank you very much for your quick response. I'm new to soapmaking, too. And with everything there is to know it seems as though you can't ask enough questions. I'd love to hear how it goes with your soap. Let me know what kind it is, I may want to try it. About the suet, I never dreamed you could get it for free! Thanks again for all of your help... I really appreciate it. Take care, Kris
