Hi Niki

No Dr Teo is no longer working in Sydney in this area the new contact is Dr n Vonuer. The clinic is based at Prince of Wales hospital, Sydney. We need to go for monthly visits to ensure everything is going according to plan. I can't wait to get the helmet as I first noticed the problem when she was 2.5 months old its just taken so long for anyone to take it seriously. Also they recommend repositioning for the first couple of months anyway.

I guess I a m a bit paranoid about sleeping positions as Chloe likes to roll onto her tummy and sleep on her left cheek. So even when she's not on her back she doesn't naturally rotate her head into different positions. I've noticed just in the last couple of weeks that her left eye is a bit more squinty compared to the right eye. I don't know if this is as a result of the plagio (from when she slept on her back) or from her favouring this side when she rolls onto her tummy. Its just a bit wierd that I wasn't aware of it before (don't you just hate how you tend to scrutinise every part of their face to work out whether its symmetrical or not). Hoping that once the helmet is fitted I can let go of this a bit and be reassured that improvements will eventuate. So happy to hear that changes become noticable after a couple of weeks.

I think I will post some photos before and after shots - its always helpful to see the progress in action

All the best

Beth

Re: hi i'm new from oz

Hi Beth, and welcome to the group! I am so glad that you were able to find a specialist there in Sydney, is it safe to assume that you are seeing Dr. Teo? That's the only name I am familiar with in Sydney. Both of my twins needed to wear bands to help correct their plagio. I think the first night we had them sleeping in their bands, they fussed a bit. But every other night after that, they slept just as peacefully as they had before. I really don't think it matters which position your child sleeps in to achieve maximum correction. It just matters that the helmet is on ;o)We started seeing results within the first 2 or 3 weeks. Some see it sooner, while others later. It really helped that my twins were going through a growth spurt at just the right time. How quickly your child grows, depends on how quickly you see results.Good luck to you and Chloe! Please be sure to keep us updated!NikiKaylie & Danny (STAR grads)Phila., PAUSA> Hello all> > I have been reassured by all your stories of bands and improvements you have noticed. My daughter Chloe is 6.5 months old and will pick up her band in 1 week's time. We live near Sydney Australia. I have encountered so many problems from health professionals taking plagiocephaly seriously. It was only through contact with Kendra and the support group that I found a specialist in Sydney. I tried repositioning for last 3 months and there have only been slight improvements (but I think it stopped the flattening from getting worse). Chloe has a flat spot on the right side of her head and her right ear looks larger as it protrudes further forward than the left ear. I am only just starting to notice differences in the symmetry of the eyes (ever so slight)> > Just a couple of questions:> 1) does the band affect sleeping initially (Chloe likes to sleep on her stomach - I am constantly having to turn on her onto her side - worried about the SIDS thing). She doesn't like to sleep on her back but does the band bring better results if they are on their backs?> > 2) How long did it take before you noticed improvements?> > Thanks again - love hearing all your experiences it is good to know I'm not alone in this and we have similar concerns etc> > BethFor more plagio info

Re: hi i'm new from oz

Beth -Welcome. My son wore a band from 5-8 months. It never bothered him. He was sleeping in it by the 3rd night. We worked up to it because his body temperature was still adjusting. We started seeing improvements within the first week. Dane had some great growth spurts, so our timing was wonderful. I'm sure you will notice a difference relatively soon also. With the band, it shouldn't matter how she sleeps. Our dr. told us that once the kids start rolling onto their stomachs themselves, to let them sleep that way. It is my understanding (I'll probably get yelled at here!) that as long as you don't lay them that way, it's okay and when they start flipping themselves it's fine to leave them that way. Hi debbie,

excuse my ignorance but what is "passive style" design. In Sydney there is no choice they only offer one design of helmet. Looks very similar to the Doc band from pictures I have seen. When I finally get it I will post some photos.

cheers

Beth

Re: hi i'm new from oz

Hi Beth :)I'm so happy that you have finally found a Dr. in your country who will treat Chloe! That is great Kendra was able to help!!!Good luck with Chloe's band next week. I'll answer your questions below:> Just a couple of questions:> 1) does the band affect sleeping initially (Chloe likes to sleep on her stomach - I am constantly having to turn on her onto her side - worried about the SIDS thing). She doesn't like to sleep on her back but does the band bring better results if they are on their backs? We have other members whose baby sleeps on their stomach with bands on. I don't think you'd get better results if Chloe was on her back vs. her belly, that would probably be a good question to ask your orthotist. Some babies do have a difficult time sleeping in their band for the first couple days or so, MOST babies adjust to their new band w/o any trouble. I'm sure Chloe will do fine :)> > 2) How long did it take before you noticed improvements? That all depends on the age your child begins therapy. Chloe being 6.5 mos old, you should probably (hopefully) start noticeing improvement w/i 2-4 wks. It also depends on growth spurts. Is Chloe's helmet going to be a "passive" style design?Good luck next week. Be sure you let us know how it goes!Debbie Abby's mom DOCGradMIFor more plagio info
