Zack and Zoey's dad checking in after having our first appointment

with our plagio specialist (Dr. at Children's

Hospital..apparently he teaches at Harvard Med School so he must know

what he's talking about-right?). Here are the interesting results of

the appointment:

1- He didn't recommend using the helmet until the babies were at

least 4 months old and suggested we continue repositioning.

Apparently their necks have to be stronger.

2- He suggested that the twins sleep on their sides. We've tried

this the last couple of nights with absolutely no success. So we're

going to keep our current system of supervised tummy naps during the

day..with our best attempts at repositioning their heads at night.

3- He used a sliding caliper to measure their " transcranial

anthropometry " . Amazingly Zack's noggin was fairly symmetrical (9mm

total difference between long axis and short axis)..and Zoey's was

less symemetrical (14mm total difference). He said insurance

typically does not cover helmets when the difference is less than

1cm. He also said the smaller the asymmetry, the less a helmet will

help.

We've noticed a difference in the symmetry of their noggins, so we're

going to stay with our repositioning program for another month and

we'll see how they measure then. We'll make the helmet decision

then..we're open to the idea if it will help, but I don't know if

it's worth making them sweat out the summer in a helmet for a 1mm

improvement.

Here's some overhead progress shots of their noggins (and a cute pic

of each of them)

Ken,

Wow!! I think Zach and Zoey look GREAT!! Honestly - I think you have been

doing great with the repositioning. It definitely seems that you are doing

the right thing by giving it another month. Keep us posted!!
