Guest guest
Hi & welcome to our group! We're glad to have you . Stares are something that you will get used to & probably won't even notice as time goes on. I never really let people's stares bother me much. I always told myself that I would probably stare too if I didn't know what the band was for, it's human nature to stare at something which is considered " different " . But if people do ask you what it's for, go ahead & try to educate them. You never know, you could be helping someone! A lot of us have also been surprised to hear of people who knew of another baby that had a helmet before too! As for cleaning it, try leaving the band in direct sunlight for the hour it is off. Make sure it's completely dry before you put it back on baby. Check out this site for some helpful cleaning tips as well: http://www.plagiocephaly.org/support Welcome again to the group! We look forward to hearing of your baby's rounding head in the mos to come! Guest guest
I just took his band off tonight and he has some very red marks on his cheeks that don't seem to be going away. It looks lik the edges are pushing to hard into the sides of his face. Also where it pushes by his ear is all dry and starting to peel. I am wondering if the helmet is fitting correctly or if this is normal. Still getting use to this whole helmet situation. Our son has severe plagio, and I'm starting to wonder if this is really the correct treatment we should be doing. I just don't want him to suffer. We also live in a very warm climate, tomorrow the forecast is for 100 degrees. I'm scared to take him out of the house when it gets that warm. > > Hi- > > I am new to this site and within the last few months one of our six > > month old twins has been diganosed with serve plagio. Guest guest
tmster2000 - It sounds like your son had a growth spurt and it's time for an adjustment! I would call your orthotist in the morning. Leave the band off until the red spots go away. If that takes longer than an hour, I would leave it off and get an adjustment tomorrow. Don't doubt your decision. If he has severe plagio, it really is in his best interest to take care of it now. It is best for him to be a little sweaty for a summer than to be self conscious his whole life - just my take on it For dry skin we used hydrocortisone cream. My son also has eczema. We used the Aveeno Oatmeal bath pouches and made a paste on his head and then rinsed it well every night during bath time. Good luck and let us know what the orthotist says. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group!! I am the proud mom of twins also(plus 2 older boys, can't leave them out!) Both Kaylie and Danny wore the STARband for their plagio. I was very fortunate to not have come across people who would have rude comments to say or stare, but then again with 4 young kids I didn't leave the house much! A lot of members take it as an opportunity to educate people on just what the bands are for, and what plagio is when people stare. Just hold your head high, you know that you are doing the right thing for your child by having his plagio addressed, don't let the stares get to you. As for the smell, there were a few things that we did to help lessen it. My twins wore their bands during the summer so we definitely had our share of stinky days. We used 91% rubbing alcohol and scrubbed the bands with an old toothbrush. Then we would leave it the bands in the sun for an hour. While the bands were off, I would shampoo the babies hair. On really hot days, I did this twice. Once when they woke up in the morning, they would get their full bath. And then again after they woke up from their nap, then it would be just a shampoo. Like Marci said, use a nicely scented shampoo and wash the hair at the beginning of the bath, but don't rinse until the end. Once the bands were dried, we used cornstarch on the inside of the bands (check with your ortho first to make sure this is ok) to help absorb the sweat. Doin all of these things, plus keeping the babies dressed as cool as possible, really helped with the smell. I hope this helps some! Good luck and keep us posted!
