Guest guest
This article was in our local paper this morning - http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2012/01/12/301491_news.html The story behind the article is very sad in that a young boy with autism managed to escape from his parents one night at around 5.30 p.m. He crossed an extremely busy main road without incident and headed to the nearby railway line, where he was hit by a train. I personally cannot see how having a register could have helped this little boy or how it can help at all. Thus my question, does anyone have knowledge of such a register in their area. Thanks Jan. Guest guest
Seems to me as well that a database would be of limited use in this sort of situation unless it was tied to additional supports like the trackers and there was a way for parents to activate an alert. I suppose there's a chance that if the local emergency personnel had been alerted and knew the description and where the boy might have been traveling they might have been able to intervene, but it doesn't seem that likely based on the information, especially without a tracker device. What was needed here was the human link--if just one of all those people who saw a very young child, unattended by an adult, wandering on or near a busy road had intervened or at least reported it to authorities, THEN a database might be useful to figure out who the child is, who to notify, and how to successfully interact with the child. So sad that people seem to think a computer can take responsibility for human common sense and sense of responsibility.
