Guest guest
Hi nna, Thanks for the update on Skye and . When you get a chance could you explain the middle ear condition that Skye has? I don't want to be ignorant, but does that mean she cannot hear? Or maybe just not process different sounds? Hopefully the surgery will solve that problem for her. Glad to hear that is getting the assistance he needs and is doing well. It was good to hear from you again - drop us a line whenever you have a chance. I know how very busy you must be! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma PS - I wouldn't mind seeing a new picture of Skye if you have the means to post one!
Guest guest
Hi Marci As you would know the middle ear not only controls hearing but many people with middle ear problems also have a lack of balance - as Skye has no middle ear function in either ear (meaning both are blocked by fluid) her hearing is impaired - she may or maynot be able to hear most things depending on the tone. The Doctor's think that this could also be part of the problem with her being unable to stand alone yet or walk. The ENT surgeon explained that because of her ear misalignment (because her skull is now permamently misshapen) the plagio could be a major part of her problem - everything inside her head seems to be crooked aswell making it difficult for the eustation tubes to drain effectivly as they should therefore blockages are more common - we should know more soon we have to wait and see what the outcome will be. Guest guest
Thanks for the explanation nna. I am convinced that had severe ear infections because of her headshape. She has tubes now and they have made a huge difference. However, I still blame the head shape for the problem. All my best for Miss Skye and please do let us know what you learn from the ENT. Guest guest
nna, So good to hear from you! I hope that once Skye's ear canal problem is over she will be able to hear better and her balance will kick in! I have heard that the fluid in the ear does make all the difference with hearing and balance as well, so I'm hoping you'll see some good results from the surgery- soon you'll wish she wasn't as fast and getting away from you! I'm glad that you were able to get into an environment that is geared to enhance his skills- my friend is currently going through the process of getting a diagnosis for her son (2 years old)- who the Doctors also feel has autism. I have done research for her (internet is good!) and as you probably know, the degrees of severity are very different for every child, and in today's day and age, there are more ways to handle and understand this than ever before. Good luck to you all- please update us all on Skye when the surgery is over and let us know how is doing too! Hugs to you all! ' Mom
