She stated to me that sometimes, over time, the blades can come loose, and that is what she thinks happened in my case. The solution she posited was to send me out a "tool" that will enable me to screw the blades back into the container. She assured me that I would be able to accomplish this without much of a problem. She also stated that she knew my kitchen must have been a mess as a result of this incident (a major understatement), and she was sorry about that. As a way of compensating, she would include a complementary set of spatulas with the "tool" she was sending out to me. It did occur to me to tell her that I would just prefer a new container, but then I thought, Just give her plan a try and see what happens. I also like the idea of having a "tightening tool" (my words, not hers), because now that I know this kind of thing can occur, I will periodically tighten *all* of my containers. I don't ever want to have such a mess in the kitchen again. And in the event that, after receiving this tool thingie, I get any kind of "bad feeling" about the whole thing, I will call Vitamix back and tell them that, for safety's sake, we'd better go with a new container. She also told me that I could go ahead and use the 46 oz container without worry. So that's where it's at. It should be here within 7 or 8 days. I guess Vitamix, like all of us, is trying to keep down costs as well. I am curious if you have heard of this before? I will certainly let you know how things go once I receive the tool and attempt to fix the container. Thank you again, ladies, for your support and fast response to my SOS last night. Guest guest
Hello ,Thanks for the update! For some reason I thought that the stainless steel blades on your container had completely separated from the black base of the blade assembly. As far as the entire blade assembly coming loose - yes, I have had this happen to two different 32 oz containers (but I caught what was happening before they came completely unscrewed). You can tell that the blades are getting loose by a different sound that comes out of your machine when using it. It is a high pitched whine. It wasn't as noticeable on the lower, variable speeds, but I could hear it when the machine was on high. I took the container off of the base and let it run on high and didn't hear the sound, so I felt the blade assembly and found that it was VERY loose! I hand tightened it for the rest of what I was making at the time, then called Vitamix to get a blade tightening wrench.Glad that you have a back up container to use while your blade tightening tool is on its way! Guest guest
Lea Ann I think this would make a great teaching video. Loosen the blade on one of your containers. Make something (and a mess) for newbies to see on YouTube. I think everyone has experienced this at least once. Tony
Guest guest
They used to sell those tools on the accessories page of their website; I believe they were advertised to be able to switch out the blade kit on your container so you can switch between the dry and wet blades if you only have one container. Just a bonus use for you! I think detailed instructions to use it are in the instruction manual that came with the vitamix, too. > > I know I'm going to miss you tonight, Lea Ann, because you're on Eastern time, but the day has been a crazy one. Guest guest
LOL - I hate cleaning up messes so… prolly ain't gonna happen ;-)But on a serious note, I dream of doing so many videos, then life with managing this list, answering emails and phone calls, and trying to raise 3 teenage boys keeps getting in the way :-( Blessings,Lea Ann SavageSatellite Beach, FL(321) 773-7088 (home)(321-961-9219 (cell)))><'>www.VitamixLady.comwww..com<))>< On Jan 6, 2012, at 9:04 AM, tszpara@... wrote: Lea Ann I think this would make a great teaching video. Guest guest
Sorry I didn't get to chime in on this thread earlier, so forgive me for putting in my 2cents worth. I have that little wrench for both of my VM machines... After unscrewing the assembly on a fairly new machine I THOUGHT I had tightened it enough, but alas, I screwed up <pun intended> Running the machine with a smoothie and it leaked all over the machine and I turned it off immediately, but the machine would never run again...not after letting it rest for HOURS, not after cleaning up the mess or anything. Fortunately, this happened in Ohio and we went to the VM corporate office...GREAT customer service. They fixed my machine and charged me nothing! I put the wrench away in a drawer...
