Guest guest
Hey everyone, Thanks Beck for asking about me, I've had time to do little more than read posts occasionally (digest form). I guess I just needed a prod to post. We lost the use of our computer for a few weeks, thought we'd have to replace it but when we finally got around to checking it out, it turned out to be a bad surge protector. Now we're planning a trip to my favorite beach in the continental US (Gulf Shores AL). We leave Friday after hubby gets off of work (I'll be unsubscribing temporarily to spare my providers storage space). Jack had his recheck last Wed, after our tort exercise regimen and repositioning they are still recommending the band, but I'm not convinced. I've got sooooo many concerns that I really don't feel the DOC folks are putting me at ease about. The PT even said that yes, she saw some correction, but not as much as she wanted to (in 3 weeks). I KNOW I've seen correction, and so does my friend who is a baby nurse who doesn't see him every day. I've decided not to make the decision on the band until after our trip, seeing Jack has his 4 month checkup 2 days after we get back, I'll have a little heart to heart with his pediatrician. I'll also talk with a few relatives for their honest opionion while we're there and continue to prayerfully consider this. ly I'm not certain that his plagio is so severe that it needs a band and, frankly, I feel that the DOC folks have a conflict of interest. As much as I want to believe that they have Jack's best interest at heart, I also know that their bread and butter is in the sale of Doc Bands and I can't help but believe that they may recommend the band to 'borderline' patients. My husband has rubbed off on me in his skepticism! The whole truth of the matter is, my GUT tells me that he doesn't need the band...I'm just afraid to trust my gut sometimes..even though in the past I believe it has proven to be a pretty darn good mother's instinct. Any advice would be greatly appreciated (feel free to email me directly - misha2@... as I will be unsubscribing from the digest Friday until we get back from the beach). Thanks everyone, have a great couple weeks! Guest guest
Misha - Hope you have a relaxing vacation! From your post, I am concluding that you are uncomfortable with CT because they are profiting from the band. Have they done anything else to make you think they are doing a sell job? My husband thought the same thing at first. My mom (a nurse) pointed out that our pediatrician makes most of her money off our vaccinations. We never think twice about her recommendations in that regards! Your son is still very young. Waiting until after your vacation is probably a great idea so that you feel more comforatble with whatever you decide. My son was casted just before he was 5 months. He wore his band for 12 weeks and got close to 100% correction. He had facial and ear asymmetry that was not responding to repositioning. The band didn't bother Dane at all. The casting wasn't a cake walk, but it was about 15 minutes and then he fell asleep afterwards and forgot all about it. I saw your other post. Don't pass up on the band because of the casting. It really isn't much worse than getting shots. I have heard babies cry that much at the peds. Dane had several ivasive procedures after birth (MRI, barium swallow, upper GI, GI probes, intubation, etc.) to discover that he only had reflux. I have never second guessed anything. There isn't any point to it. We were initially worried about the casting, but we decided we didn't want to have to tell him that his head shape ws irregular because we couldn't stand to have him scream for a few minutes. It was a necessary evil! There was a post on the cranialtech.com parents discussion board that you might want to read. It is re:Help classifying this measurement by Audrey. Banding isn't for everyone. If you aren't comfortable with the people at CT, then try for another opinion until you do feel at ease. Again hope you have a great vacation and it helps solidify your decision! Guest guest
Misha: I just read your " just in case " post - you don't need to feel bad about not wanting to band Jack!!!!!! Yes, most of us in the group have banded our child, BUT we totally support those who decide not to! Heck, we're all thrilled when parents are successful with repositioning. It sounds as if you have seen good improvement with Jack thus far, hooray! He is also plenty young enough yet to continue to see results with repositioning, so keep up your great work. Deciding whether or not to band is extremely difficult. You say your gut is telling you not to. We always say in this group to go with your mommy instincts . So whatever you decide, we all support you 150%!!! Have you been taking photos of Jack's head while repositioning? This will give you evidence of improvement or not. If not, I highly suggest doing so. It does help . I'm so jealous! I wish I was going to Gulf Shores. I went there my sophmore year of h.s. for spring break 12 yrs ago already. WOW, what a blast. It's a very pretty town too. Have a great time. Jack is as big as Abby was at 4 mos. Abby weighed 19 lbs at her 4 mos chk up. Abby is now 27 mos & weighs 38 lbs or so, WAY off the growth chart. She's in 5T or girls 4 clothes . Hehe. Again, don't rush your decision, go with your gut, and best of lcuk with repositioning! Keep us posted - enjoy your vacation.
