Guest guest
Misha, It is certainly very understandable that you are taking your time in making this decision- I think for many parents where there is mild to moderate plagio, the decision is so hard to make because you don't want to put them through anything they don't have to go through, but yet the concern is still there that a problem may exist. We had a very hard time just coming to a decision because our Doctor, and family and friends, never spotted our concerns of facial asymmetry, ear misalignment, etc. Each of them acted as if we were seeing things, or making matters sound worse than they were. We knew otherwise. That's the instinct your talking about. If your instinct is telling you that this is not necessary, right now, then go with it. Your baby is still only 4 months old when you get back from your vacation (have fun by the way!), so there is still ample time to figure this all out should God forbid the condition worsen any. My son also went through sedation (twice), MRI's (twice) and rigorous physical therapy for tort (also tried the tot collar), so I can totally relate that you feel your child has been through enough already. Ironically, after we went against our Docs advice, and dismissed our family and friends unconcern, they started telling us that they did notice the smaller eye, and our Doctor felt that we made the right decision by putting him in the band. The results said all that we needed them to hear. So, go with your instinct, continue to educate yourself, know when to say when, and you sound like a great Mom, very concerned, yet very cautious in making this huge decision- a great approach in my opinion. Good luck to you and please keep us posted on how your little guy is doing. The consensus on this Board is lots of parents going through the helmet/band treatment, but no one wants to see you down that road if its not necessary. Keep us posted! Guest guest
I just got to thinking after my last post. . . all you guys seem so OK with the bands I didn't want you to think badly of me so I thought I's post and make excuses. Part of the reason for my skepticism (SP?) is that when my daughter was about one and a half we she was diagnosed with migraines. To reach that diagnosis, the doctors had to rule out a brain tumor, which meant many tests, most of which involved me holding her down physically or her being sedated to receive the tests (MRI's, CT's, EEG's etc). I only know in retrospect that the tests were not necessary and am by no means sorry we had them done, my daughter's health was in question, but I don't wish to have to put Jack through any unnecessary grieif (or myself for that matter). I know he won't remember the casting or even wearing a band, but I have to be certain....before I make this decision... Thanks again... Misha I can do all things through Christ who strenthens me.
