NC EOG testing

Hi, I haven't posted here in a long time. I hope you all are doing well. I have

some questions that I haven't been able to find answers for. We live in NC and

really these questions are probably state specific. I have posted to local

support groups but have not received any replies.

My daughter is in third grade and will be taking EOG (end of grade) tests for

the first time this year. Her placement is quite diverse but works quite well

for now. She goes back to a 2nd grade classroom for reading, an EC self

contained classroom for math and is with her typical 3rd grade peers for other

subjects and specials. She gets resource support totaling 4 hours spread out

during the week and ST 45 min/2x week. She also gets numerous modifications and

accommodations to help her participate successfully with her 3rd grade peers. I

know it sounds complicated but actually runs quite smoothly. Transitions are not

usually a problem for my daughter though.

I am faced with decisions now about EOG testing. Her teachers feel that she

needs to take the Extend1 test. From what I understand about the tests and from

looking at samples, I agree. However, this is all new to me and I want to make

sure that I am making the right decision. I don't want to make a mistake that

cannot be undone later. It is unclear to me how this testing ties into the

choices for graduation track. Will she still be eligible for a diploma if we

allow her to take the extend1? If she takes extend2 and fails, what happens?

I asked about the possibility of her taking the extend1 for math and extend2 for

reading. I was told this was not an option but I question the validity of that

answer. Does anyone know if it is possible to take a different version for

reading and math. As I am sure is true for most of our kids, her reading skills

far surpass her math.

Thanks for any input or advice,

Hope
