Good Afternoon All,

Well as promised, I had my meeting with the school district today. I was

able to present the MERV rating information with them, that all of you

helped me with. They agreed to start using these in the kids school first.

So, they sent me out to find them. Well, weird size filter. Stores don't

carry it. So I called the company Fletch gave me. They don't make and will

not make custom a MERV 12,13,14,15 in the size I need. So, guess we'll have

to settle for an 11.

As I had promised them they have been receiving positive feedback from the

teachers and parents. Even though the school is only 1/2 done 5 teachers

have thanked them and me for doing this, stating that their migraines,

sinuses, and asthma have been much better in just 4 days. Parents have

thanked all of us also, and are very happy they took a pro-active step on

this matter. So, needless to say they are very happy. As well as I am.

So, now all we have to do is the other 1/2 of the school, carpet cleaning,

wiping things down, and clearance. Then we will have an environmentally

happy school. YEAH

Thank you for all your help everyone.

I haven't been following this thread so I may have some details

wrong. But if units needing the filters are commercial rather than

home units, then your best bet is to check with commercial filter

companies. Commercial equipment has different size and type

requirements. Go to the National Air Filtration Association Web site

at: http://www.nafahq.org/memdir.htm and click on the region where

you live. It will list NAFA members in your state. They may be able

to help you with the size and MERV rating you need.

Thank you Carl for your feedback. I agree with you. IF these we the

commercial units we would be going a different route. Even though it is a

school, each classroom runs on their own small system. (not a large

commercial unit) This school is very new, and they have done some new things

that are not seen alot in the industry, alot of hi-tech stuff. I did consult

with the inspection company that has been working with me, and they have

said that the filters we are trying to get will be more than adequate.

Anything will be better than the washable filters they are using now. Far

as I am concerned they might as well save their money if they are going to

use those.(the blue washable ones, plastic, you know the ones) The filters

are small, like the type in a home HVAC. We will also make changes to

everything as time goes on, but as we are moving quickly to get the ducts

cleaned, carpets cleaned, etc... and get my kids back into the school, it

will be better to have these than nothing at all. However, I am going to

check out the site, who knows maybe they have something we can use.

Thank you,

I'm not sure what " more than adequate " means. Most people, allergic

or asthmatics, etc? Also, if these are small residential type systems

they should already accomodate common residential filter sizes.

Obviously they don't but adjustments to the filter holders and/or

other sheetmetal work is often easily done to accommodate different

sizes. So I'm not sure why, other than the politics involved, this is

so difficult for them. Be that as it may, congratulations for

succeeding at making a difference! We all need to hear when it

happens!
