Loni Carl's thoughts on this are excellent. In addition to that, I would like to add a couple more cleaning ideas. 1/2 bucket of warm/ hot water 1/2 C borax a little dish detergent for suds dissolve stuff in the water, and scrub area gently. This has not damaged my wood floors. The abrasion is what you have to watch. Then, dry the heck out of it. Vinegar is good for killing mold, as many previous posts have pointed out, but I have not tried it on wood. If you have visible mold damage on the wood, I guess you have to remove it the old fashioned way- sanding or scraping with sharp tools. Either way, it is important to do it wet. Like with wet-and-dry sandpaper, etc, and throwing everything out when whoever does it is done.
