Guest guest
About a week ago there was no good news about 's transition to high school. Give them a week off, and things are a-changin' I got a call from the RSP at the high school today (wow, a phone call, I like her already) and she asked me what questions she could answer for me (again, I like her!) She did not make me feel rushed, and explained that they don't specifically have Resource or Special Day classes, but rather blended classes in which basically the RSP kids do with accomodations (if needed), and the SDC kids do with modifications (as needed.) State standards are met in RSP, and these kids are usually diploma tracked. So, at least we know those are options for her, if we choose. Of, we could fight to remain included in regular ed science and social studies (electives, they are happy to mainstream) and then have modifications and a certificate of completion. We've finally hit the moment of truth... up until now, I've been very certain that full inclusion was the best for . She has done amazingly well in all aspects of her education and socialization. In high school, I realize that she could be included in a " lower " level class, while most of the students she's been with since kinder who are great with her, will be taking the honors and AP classes. So, will this be a good thing??. I don't know. Plus, they are going to fight to get rid of her aide, and I know she can't do regular ed w/o the aide.... it is really going to depend on what I see when I observe! Still waiting for permission to visit the classes, but the RSP said that when " " set it up, she should coordinate with her so that she'd have time to talk to me and answer any questions after my visit (did I say, I like her yet???) So, still have to get the blessing from the program specialist to actually observe, but at least the high school is open to it.... only one administrator to go! I hope she is our case manager.... she's the department head and seemed really great... I'm done with 3 years of the world's worst case manager! Hopefully this is the beginning of good news, and the end of the world's worst case manager! , mom to (16) (14 DS) Sammy (12) and auntie to (18)
