Guest guest
I have a request from a family from the New Orleans area. They say that, for reasons no one can quite figure out, FEMA is covering people's household belongings that got oil on them, but not if they got flooded or contaminated with other things. She's got the pictures, but needs to prove it's oil. She has samples in a plastic container, and needs a lab that can determine the oil on the contents. She will ship the sample to anyone who can do that. If anyone has a good idea about this, please email me! Thanks a Million, Serena (Drywall Casserole with Gummint Cheese. Guest guest
The jobs of these labs is to ascertain the truth, and a reputable lab will attempt to do just that. These folks definitely would be well advised to steer themselves FAR away from any 'lab' that claims that they will guarantee any particular outcome. ... WRT to the insurance mess. The current system (of mutually assured irresponsibility?) is really showing its faults and problems in this truly depressing situation. One has to wonder if the human race is worthy of survival into the next milennium if the responses we have seen to these superstorms are the best responses we can muster, don't you all agree? All of society - together - should be joining together to rise to the occasion, rather than individually - as their various entities - trying to slough off any and all possible responsibility. Clearly, there are reasons for the patchwork quilt of insurance coverage that we see in the US in situations like this, but do you really want to be the one to tell 500 families in a community that was just wiped out after being told a year or two ago by 'responsible' people who should know better that they 'didn't need' flood insurance? Arrgh.. And I am told that very little new insurance covers mold. THATS BAD... *****What a mess***** A word to the wise.. Nobody should assume that anyone else will help them. When disasters happen, deal with it the best you can. Yourself, if you want to survive. And remember, sharing is a MAJOR survival skill. Join together with others if you can. Try to minimize your losses. Don't expect someone to come along with help. Especially not the government, (their jobs as bureaucrats are to get things 'settled' - get people off their case - not necessarily to get things cured.) or corporations (who are in it for a profit, period.) Even NGOs are often needlessly complicated, wasting huge amounts of money on 'necessary' 'administrative costs' that eat up huge chunks of their contributors money.. or other gifts.. whiuch never make it to the intended recipients.. Thats a good way to look at the above types advice as well. Take politicians and government bureaucrats..or their contractors.. Well meaning.. (don't forget, many of their biggest contributors are in businesses like homebuilding and pharmaceuticals..get the picture? ) Corporations? (They pay for access, you don't.) Sometimes they can give good advice, especially if that is their job.. but often, its at best, way off, and at worst, plain wrong. (But sometimes, its all you have got besides yourself..) Especially on issues involving things you can't see, in which the science is rapidly evolving... Am I making any sense at all? Its been a very long day..
