Guest guest
Loved your blog ! I have to say, my daughter is now 14, and we've had many, many, many more of the " Ava " moments than the " park " moments in her life. Like last year, in 7th grade, was apparently seated near a CD player/speakers in Social studies, and is disturbed by loud noises when she's trying to concentrate (much like her Mom!) So not the regular ed teacher, resource teacher, or aide thought that loud rock music playing during work time might be a problem for , but one of the girls in her Scout troop came to me and explained the situation, and thought that it was probably too loud for ,and that maybe she'd rather have a different seat, as it seemed to be making it hard for her to work! Smarts, good observations, and compassion from that kiddo, and enough maturity to seek me out to tell me. (No comment as to why none of the adults noticed!) Many, many stories over the years of kids being wonderful advocates for ! That said, I'm sure there are things that are said and done that we are not aware of, but she has been raised as much as possible " just like the other kids " and I think that her outlook on life is quite positive. She has started asking lately, as a reason for things " Is that because I have Down Syndrome? " Like her bloodwork came back today, her thyroid is fine but her cholesterol is a little high... Told her " no, it's not because you have Down Syndrome, it's because you love beef and hate to exercise! " but it did make me wonder if she's hearing things, or just really getting a better grasp on her situation. Gabe is such a cutie! What a great family for him to belong to, with so many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.... I'll be he is thriving! , mom to (16), (14 DS), Sammy (12) and auntie to (18) at the House of Teenagers!
