Guest guest
Becky - I would schedule another meeting directly with him and also ask for the clinic note that documents his findings that support this diagnosis. Regarding the cholesterol, when Macey's was high for 2-3 yrs they told us that she would not be medicated for it until she was 10 because the drugs were hard on her liver and that the only reason they would treat before that is if the Heart smart I and II diets had failed and she had an LDL over a certain level. Her total cholesterol was not a deciding factor in medicating, it was her LDL and the ratio level and even then it would have to be a certain amount even over the normal high. They were very concerned here about medicating a child with adult meds for high lipids. And this was even with a heavy heart disease history on her fathers side. Guest guest
Goodness yes Beth! When I was first ill, I couldn't even open my mouth hardly for weeks. It did go away and I haven't had it since. The only thing I did was use heat and ice. I hope your feeling better soon and it doesn't last long. Guest guest
Hi Beth, My answer to that one is ...yes! I had some bad pain for some time, and I was afraid it would lead to not being able to eat or talk. When I told my husband about my worries..he said " oh, you will always find a way to talk. " Years later now, it gives me no trouble. Also, I experienced many severe pains at the bottom of the ear way back where the jaw connects, and my doctor told me that was arthritis in the jaw. The only thing that helped for me., was " time. " There is something though called TMJ (?) that can cause serious problems also. Our 28 year old son has that to a small degree. The dentist diagnosed it, asnd told him it could get to the point where in years ahead he may need surgery because of it. When did this start Beth? Just lately, or have you noticed it before also? Does it hurt to eat? Guest guest
Beth, funny you mention this today -- I haven't had a problem in the past few months with my jaw but today it is killing me. Unfortunately all I've really done is the same stuff I do for my other joints (i.e., prednisone and other meds). if it is really bad you could ask you rhematologist if they think some kind of retainer might help, but I don't think it does (at least it didn't help me at all). Others may have had luck. sorry you're in pain!

Guest guest
Hi Beth, When I would get my flares, I'd have a terrible, terrible, terrible sore throat but not any jaw pain that I remember. My gums would be sore also. I wonder if you might have some arthritis there and it's not active until you get a bit of a flare. I hope it goes away soon as none of us need any extra pain! ( xxoo Mi. Guest guest
Hi Vicki, There are a few changes...elasticity, moisture content. For me, my skin got really, REALLY dry. I was slathering lotion on all the time. I am also a fair skinned red head and noticed dark circles forming under the eyes. I've noticed more wrinkles in my skin, and the elasticity just isn't there like it use be. However, at 2 months, I broke out like I was 16 again. I up-ed my water intake a bit and it cleared up, but I do know some that had to go on birth control to clear up the acne. I have heard however, that I look much younger now that I've lost weight. When I wear make-up, I'm told I " look my age " (34, 35 in November) but since I am not one that's big on make up unless it's a special occasion, I usually go " neekid " on the face. That's when I get the most comments. The one I get the most is someone mixing me up with my girls. My oldest daughter will be 14 in 13 days. She weighs in at 152 and she's 5' 4 " . My middle one is 12.5 and she weighs in at 168 at just shy of 5' 4 " . My youngest is 11.5 and weighs in at 132 and she's 5' 1 " . Most people tend to mix me up with my middle one, though I've heard a few make comments about me and the oldest. (Big difference... she has blond hair and her boobs are MUCH perkier then mine. I mean, at least her nipples are where they're suppose to be!) The middle one, *I* think looks like her Dad, but I've heard a lot of people confuse her for me because of the red hair probably. The youngest is just too short yet but she's got blond hair too! So, there are a lot factors to take into consideration, age, elasticity, how good the skin was before weight loss, etc. WAY too many factors. Everyone is an individual with different genes... some got good ones some like me got the crappy ones. (READ: Adopted...birth family is PSYCHO!) GOOD LUCK! Guest guest
You are right about the looking younger thing. People are always surprised when I tell them how old I am. lol I have some metrogel cream that I got from the dermitologist. It seems to keep the rocesea breakouts to a minimum. I had lotion on me one end to the other. I never broke out on my face like so many do. But I did loose alot of hair. It started three months out and lasted three months. I had 3 ziploc bags full just from my brush in the morning- not what I left everywhere I went, in the carpet, cars, stores, work, etc. I would be standing at work and could actually feel and see it fall. To scarey for me, but it did stop and is slowly growing back out. I had butt length hair and cut it last Sept to let the new hairs catch up. They havent yet but are trying. Alot of women just cut it short and look great! But alas, I have real curly hair and if cut short would have a brillo pad. lol Sharon in Onyx who reminds you- we are all so different, ymmv
Guest guest
> > hi beauties- > > > >yes- i hear about the hair part. thats ok- i'll be thin and bald.............lol. im kidding. my skin started to change as i hit my 30's but i still get that monthly acne- yuk. there are some great moisturizers out there. if you have access to the line " Biotherm " , you should try it. awesome stuff. my friend who had her surgery in march uses it because her skin became very dry and she said it works. ive used it for 3 years now and after surgery, i will continue to because they have something for everyones skin type. its really good stuff- inexpensive too! i like that part. Guest guest
Hi, I am not sure the age of your child. I am not familar with Neocate or Pediasure. My son is on Pediatric Vivonex double dilution with pear juice and other vitamins. Alot of parents put their children on Tolerex. But my doctor felt more comfortable with giving me a script for the Vivonex. Jimmy has been on the diet for 4 months and he is doing so much better. Vivonex is an amino acid based diet (not milk-based). It is already broken down so the body does not have to work so hard to digest. It does reduce the appearance of scars as long as you stay out of the sun... If you go into the sun after you have faded them, they will show up again, as scarred skin does not tan like unscarred skin... Hope this helps. Guest guest
Lillie, For me, and I think others, it is bittersweet. As much as you want and need to lose the weight it is still a comfort zone, emotionally. By being heavy you can avoid different things in life (there are trade-in problems, of course). The weight can be a buffer zone between you and the world. As happy and excited as I was to lose the weight, it was still strange to be treated differently. It was weird to get hit on. It was both nice (to have someone think I was good enough to hit on) and uncomfortable (maybe that was one thing I ran away from?). It took many times of going to the wrong section in the clothing stores because I still saw myself as a plus size gal. My old friend " food " that was my comfort when I was lonely, depressed, happy, mad....whatever was no longer available. Face it, it is hard to eat comfort food when you can only have a few bites. It just isn't the same. I was forced to actually face my life and its problems head on, instead of avoiding and hiding. I have become a better person for it, but there were times when I just wanted to eat a few hamburgers, fries and shake and feel better that way. Very frustrating. I finally hit a point in my " journey " where I realized that I was turning into the person I always wanted to be, but was afraid to. My whoel self-image changed. I become more assertive and didn't try so hard to please everyone. I didn't need their approval to be happy. I was happy all on my own. It was a cool feeling. I still hit points where I worry about pleasing others. But then I kick myself in the butt and go on! Okay, I rambled but did I address the question at all? in Vancouver
