Guest guest
Thanks that is what I figured. Oh well. So did anyone check out the web site I posted? I will post it again now. This is where I got my wonderful " vials " from. Oh well. Someone is very nicely sending me a scoobie and we will try again. Meanwhile, I am starting the tea from some bought at Whole Foods. I do like the taste. Patty http://www.earthcalls.com/kombucha/index.shtml Re: question Patty, I really believe nothing is happening. The liquid should be all one color. And the only difference you should be able to note is the formation of a culture on top of the liquid also maybe some bubbles and brown ooglies which are dead yeast cells. I really don't know what happened to the previous listmate, but at last report she only ended of with twin cotton balls as the result of trying to brew with the contents " ? " of the vials. And she didn't get a regular brew going until she got a scoby from one of the other listmates. Luv, Sprite " When you drink the water, remember the spring. Guest guest
Patty, I didn't check it out this time but I did when got her " vials " and found that they had several areas of mis-information that was very upsetting. I decided they were not a reliable source for scoby or for information, this is why you will not find a link to them on any page I produce. Your recent experience has only reaffirmed my opinion of them. What bothers me most about it, is wondering how many people have turned away from kombucha because of their experience with Kombucha America! It boils my blood! came to the list and got set straight on the kombucha path as well as yourself, but how many have just walked away not ever knowing the truth, or getting the opportunity to experience it's benefits? It is a very sad thought:( Luv, Sprite " When you drink the water, remember the spring. Guest guest
Pam, The average alcohol content of KT is .45%. This is similar to the alcohol content of regular plain orange juice. Guest guest
>- >wow, never knew orange juice had alcohol >Thanks for the info. >My mind is at rest >Pam > The only way you can avoid a trace amount of alcohol in fruit juice is to eat fruit straight off the tree. Once it's off the tree the fermentation process begins immediately, but the atmospheric conditions must be just right for any more than a trace of alcohol to develop, which is why we put wine in wine cellars, for example. This really upsets my friends in AA though, some of whom get wound up about " non-alcoholic beer " which has almost all of the alcohol removed, but about .05% remains, about the same as a glass of orange juice(or kombucha). In other words, if you want to catch a buzz from orange juice or kombucha you'd have to chug two quarts in a couple of minutes, you'd warf the whole thing up again before you feel anything close to the equivalent of one bottle of 5% beer. Guest guest
Anne ,my 4 year old grandson ( who lives with me ) is just like that ; he never experienced separation anxiety . He will go with anyone . We live on the beach and Blayke will run up to total strangers and hug them saying “ I go you” After several months of work we finally have managed to get him to no longer run up and hug strangers though he INSISTS on greeting them all ! It is a bit scary .We have a walled courtyard which we gated this summer and we are in the process right now of walling the entire front of our property and installing a solid wood gate across the driveway entrance so that Blayke is safer . Does anyone have an AS kid who loves everyone? A kid who doesn't know what a stranger is? Cameron will go up to anyone and give them a hug or ask to be picked up. Yesterday morning he was watching tv and there was some character on and he said that was his friend. Everyone is his friend. Anyone else's kid like that? Guest guest
Anne, Tyler was absolutely positive that the whole world loved him and thought he was absolutely the greatest kid ever born until he was about 9 1/2, when a teacher shattered his self perception and vision of the world... (The teacher was fired at the end of that year) Prior to that year, he would hug anyone, play with anyone, wouldn't notice if anyone was negative or looked at him strangely, would start conversations with anyone who came near, was happily unaware of prejudices, differences, inadequacies, etc. I loved that time with him, as it was so refreshing to see things through his eyes!!! ~hugs~ Rabecca > Does anyone have an AS kid who loves everyone? Guest guest
Yes, my 7 year old Mike is like that. And he makes no distinction between adults and children too, which is worrying. But we are training him to give people " personal space " - it is one of the targets on his IEP. It has caused problems at school as he hugs the other children and they are uncomfortable with it. But since we have been helping him with it he is much better. Luckily our kids are bright enough that they can learn the boundaries that many people sense automatically. I am sorry I forget how old Cameron is, but I am sure you can train him to be a little more sensitive to other people's need for space. I think it is really cute, it is a shame that we have to train it out of them, but I guess we have to for their safety and other people's comfort. Guest guest
I had to smile at this one! I can just imagine! Aren't our kids embarassing???!!! I was in a taxi yesterday and Mike started saying " Chinese people talk like this ying tong ying ting " etc. I was so embarrased! I hope our taxi driver's english was not good enough for him to understand! I had to explain to Mike after we got out the taxi that it is not nice to make fun like that, and that he embarrased me. He told me he did not understand that he was " making fun " . How do you explain to an Aspie child what embarassment means??? I know he did not realise he was doing anything wrong; he has no concept of racism etc. But they just blurt out what they are thinking. Sometimes it can be funny, but at the time it makes me cringe! Guest guest
I usually just hold tight to Cameron when we are out in public. He hates it sometimes that I won't let go of his hand, or that he has to sit in a shopping cart, but there's no other way to keep him safe. We're very lucky that we live out in the middle of nowhere and I don't have to worry about him going with someone when he's playing outside. Guest guest
I swear, some teachers just have no business working with children. My NT daughter was told last year by her kindergarten teacher that her brain was on vacation, and told another NT child that he didn't belong there because he lived in a different school district. I'm still working on getting her removed, but I am working diligently, because Cameron will NOT go through that in 2 years.
