Guest guest
Lori: Boy can I relate to what you're going through. I'm kind of in the same place myself. I started an SSRI and some talk therapy for myself, and am coming to realize that it's okay to feel pretty darn mad about the way my life has turned out -- 1 spouse with OCD/MD, 11 yo with OCD, PDD, ADHD, MD, LD; one 18 yo going off to college; one 16 yo sullen teenager. Plus working full-time and having to be the only full-time parent, bill payer, and dealer with all the bad guys out there (insurance, docs, schools, ignorant people, etc.) :-) As Kathy and are constantly reminding us, we need to take care of ourselves, too. I have begun -- just begun -- to start laying some boundaries about what I will and won't do. Hardest is finding time for myself. I try to meet with other mom's of kids with NBDs one a week or every other week. And occasionally I lose it and scream -- like Wed night. But we all go on, and this list is a godsend. I send you warm hugs and lots of good thoughts. Jule in Cleveland

Guest guest
HI: Mamimiz: I really like your observation: >We are really a lot nicer than that slave driver in her head. What helped me was to take a tip from what I had learned in my cancer wars: live in the present and try not to hanker after the past or fret about the future. That way when Steve could do something I worried he might not, I learned to celebrate that he did it and reward him for it. When he couldn't do something I worried he might not, I worked at not fretting about his " failure " as it was at least not a rude surprise. Then I learned to remind myself that just because he couldn't do it today, that did not mean he would not be able to do it the next day. That way I tricked myself into stopping worrying about his inability that day and look forward to the next time when maybe..... Good luck, I hope some of the grief will become more muted soon, take care, aloha, Kathy (H) kathyh@... At 10:38 PM 03/24/2000 EST, you wrote: >From: Mamimiz@... > >Lori. I know how you feel. Guest guest
Hi Lori ... my younger son takes Klonopin for his Tourettes Syndrome. For the first 3 months that he was on it the doctor had me call him every two weeks and see him every month without for a few min then with . After a while I asked what about the Klonopin made the monitoring so necessary. They told me that Klonopin can occasionally cause depression and when it hits it can hit fast and hard. So it very well may be the Klonopin. Hope that helps. Peggikaye ... Oklahoma

Guest guest
Judy, Did Dr. give any other ideas for relaxation when anxiety is high? It is hard to know and if you don't have an appt. you have to research. Everyone on this list has to be talented in research. I learn more from the internet and this list about meds and ocd. I wonder how much her Dr really know? Thanks Lori " Judith C. Guest guest
Hi Lori: Did you doc suggest any other meds for the increased depression? How long has Krysti been on the 150 mg of Zoloft? It is a very hard time when meds are being adjusted and symptoms are worsening. YOu are doing a good job to be able to focus on stopping enabling and keep it all together. If you are worried bout Krysti's depression getting worse please contact her p-doc immediately. It is a good idea to talk about the danger of depression and self-harm. It does not increase the likelihood of suicide and you can get a reliable assessment of her mood and decide what needs to be done. Depression is very treatable and I am sure your doc can help with adjusting her meds. You are helping Krysti by taking action with her docs and by keeping watch over her and how she is coping. Please keep us all posted how she is doing with the depression. Take care, aloha, Kathy (H) kathyh@... Guest guest
Dan was taught relaxation response by a previous psychologist (who proclaimed him mentally healthy--missed the whole thing). I encourage him to use it at times like that. And I hold and cuddle him and say soothing positive things and tell him how wonderful he is and take him to the gym to get exercise, encourage him to drink a Boost or eat something, and sometimes have him read a fun book in front of my therapeutic light box. It comes and goes, tho. But each little effort helps a little. Judy volley4@... wrote: > > Judy, > Did Dr. give any other ideas for relaxation when anxiety is high? Guest guest
Kathy, Dr. said no to anything but Zoloft. We never really got a chance to see if the increase in zoloft worked by itself. She went from 100 mg to 150 mg. Now today, 1-1/2 days after stopping Klonopin I have seen some happiness thru-out the day. I really think it relaxed her but put her in a state of zoned out (very down, grumpy). I don't want my daughter drugged so bad she can't even notice life around her even if it is compulsions. Her very new thing is watching t.v. excessivly in order to NOT MISS the songs at the beginning. Boy what a schedule. She loves " 7th Heaven " and " Friends " . They are light and make her giggle, but now she must catch the beginning. Anxiety is very high if she is unable to watch it. Her showers everyday must be right after school and in my bathroom. I have noticed things pertaining to me seem to be a priority(maybe a comfort zone). She wears one of my special necklaces everyday and uses my shampoo and bathroom. She wears my sweatshirts and so on. There seems to be a comfort. Kathy I wanted to tell you about the computer (internet) at school. This is a very special connection for us. She is able to e-mail me at any time of the day and I can respond. She doesn't expect me to, but lets me know if she is having a good day or vents to me. I think this is a good way when she is at school to help her cope. I enjoy knowing how her day is and really can watch her progress thru stress and so on. I have been teaching myself not to get upset by sad or angry e-mails from her during the day, because low and behold they change constantly. I think this is a great tool for her. Our nightly walks are awesome also. She vents and we laugh and also work on our stress by walking. Anyway, any suggestions would help. We are monitoring the med change and tonight SHE IS AT THE SHOW W/ FRIENDS. (Prom night for Junior/Senior and she did not get asked) I am so glad cause the anxiety is awful. She was sad for a day or two, but moved on. She even missed her shows w/ songs. Day to day, and we will see. Thanks for caring Lori-ca Kathy Hammes wrote: > Hi Lori: > > Did you doc suggest any other meds for the increased depression? Guest guest
Lori ... has to watch the beginning songs of shows too. He doesn't melt down if he doesn't get to see it but he will flat out refuse to watch the show if he has missed the opening song. He also HAS to see the credits at the end and he will have melt downs if he misses those. He must be having obsessive thoughts on that somehow that he has never told me about. I never related it to the OCD until your letter. But then I am so new to this there is probably a lot he is doing that I am not realizing yet is OCD. Peggikaye ... Guest guest
Dana, My girl had to have her sword at the beginning of She-Ra so she could say the intro along with the announcer. We all ran frantically around the house looking for the sword before the show started, or she would be inconsolable. Her dream was to someday have hair as long as She-Ra. Anyway, as a few years past she lost interest so I sold the action figures (not the sword!) To this day she tries to lay a guilt trip on me for selling those treasured figures (I DID ask her if it was OK and at the time she agreed. Hint to mom's of young children, hand on to darn near everything! Ha Ha). Elaine-Devon

Guest guest
Ava did this one when she was 2-3 yrs old! I didn't recognoze it as a ritual back then, just a cute quirk (she had a zillion of 'em, some not so cute!) where she had to collect as many of her stuffed animals as she could hold during the opening song to " Sesame Street " . She didn't have much interest in the rest of the show until she was 4, but she absolutely HAD to do this thing at the beginning during the song or she would melt down and be unconsolable. Guest guest
, you bet. Yes we have a lot of personal communiction but during the day when we are apart and she needs to touch base, it is available. She can go into the library or computer class at any time (part of her 504 plan) and vent or share something special. I find that I hear things during stress and during an exciting event. Our walks also provide a special communication time in the evening. I hear about girlfriends, boys, sports teachers, art, something good or bad. I feel these two options relieve some tension and let it out of her mind. I am sure her mind is already overwhelmed. Thanks for the talk Lori-ca " W. Guest guest
I hope this works for you. She is allowed to go in the library and I am always near my computer. She even started mailing Dad. We found a cute card website and sometimes she will send flowers w/ music or something sad or sympathy. There are many ways for her to vent. I feel the venting is important for her to move on in her day instead of dwelling on her hurt at the moment. A lot of it is general school (girl) issues. I like to hear how her day is going even if it is hard on me every other hour, low and behold while I am sad or thinking here comes a funny joke or card. It is important for me to help during the day therefore I don't feel guilty being at work all day. Work is a nice repreve for me. Also, the QVC one is newer. It has a great instructional that, unlike the original, works both sides of the body. It can be a workout in itself. The basic, unlike the original basic, is not very " basic " ; it's more like a 30-minute advanced, but it is a terrific tape (lots of new moves, high energy, good music). The advanced on the QVC one is short, but a lot of fun (new moves). The 8-minute on the orignal in my opinion is better (more motivating; great energy level) than the one in the QVC 4-pack. The QVC 4 pack has " real " music (songs with lyrics) as opposed to just instrumental and the standard music of the studio tapes. The original has just " professional " experienced taeboers, whereas the QVC has regular people, too, like our . For beginners, I really recommend the the original 4 pack because it helped me at least to watch the " professionals' " form. I love the QVC 4 pack, but I am no lo! nger a beginner. The instructional on the QVC one, though, would be great for anyone at any level of experience. Elena

I haven't seen the new one yet and it's not for lack of trying (I turn the TV on faithfully every Saturday morning when I'm around, but no infomercial). We don't have cable though and I think most people who have seen the new infomercial here have cable. The 8-minute tapes come with the two 4-packs (the original studio one and the live one now sold on QVC and elsewhere). They are really about 15 minutes and the studio one at least is a great little workout. It's very high energy with lots of moves, but few repetitions. You can do the 8-minute when you are short on time, need an energy boost, need a substitute for binge eating, or just to add to another workout to make it longer (like a basic workout). How did you get the taebo tapes that you have? If you have the original studio tapes, you should have received the 8-minute tape with them. If not, you can call the 1-877 number on the back of the box and they should send it to you for free. Elena

But also what is the 8 minute workout? I have never seen an > infomercial, ever. Really I don't think anyone ever answered this question, did they? The original 4-pack are tapes that were done in 's studio with only a few of the " regulars " ....like Shellie, Debbie, , Jasmine, etc. and a few others. They are the first tae-bo tapes that ever came out. There is an instructional tape, a basic tape (30 minutes), an advanced tape (60 minutes) and an 8-minute tape (more like 15 minutes). The new live 4-pack has the same four tapes (instructional, basic, advanced and 8-minute), but they are live classes with real people in them. The music is real music with words and the class is taped " live " so to speak. The original tapes are great tapes to start off with, although the instructional tape from the live 4-pack is phenomenal and much better than the original instructional tape (in my opinion). Mitch, the 8-minute workout is just that.....only it really lasts more like 15 minutes. It's fast paced and a tough little workout. It's great for the days when you just can't fit in a half an hour, but still want to get a good workout in a short amount of time. And it's also good to add on to the end of the basic workout for a great 45 minute workout! who doesn't even remember who asked this question, but hopes this description helps

Guest guest
, Be patient. Your body is making those changes within the muscle the first few weeks. You won't see changes on the outer layers until weeks 6 or 8. ~Laury
