If there are not any near Wash. D.C. (where I am), there may not be many in the U.S.A. That could be one reason. The other thing is good old American health insurance and PPOs (preferred providers) in my case. Under my very generous insurance, there is such a great incentive to use a PPO covered by insurance co., that I tend to stay away from other non-covered health providers. Just a thought. Guest guest
Thanks, Elena, that was my thinking on the situation too. Not only am I worn out and can't get up any earlier than I am now, my morning schedule is thrown off because Bob is home. Usually, he'd be leaving for work when I would be starting my workout. I'm just hoping not to fall into the habit of not working out. Mentally I want to get back to it, but the physical/energy part is lacking. Guest guest
Thanks for the advise, Alli! A hot shower or bath sounds great whether it helps or not - LOL! Caroline, who had no time to taebo today, but spent 4 hours raking and pulling up the veggie garden....good substitution I guess.
Guest guest
Hi Caroline! I'm 25, and was a very active athlete when I was in elementary/high school. Pretty much ALL of my joints make funny noises. Not all of the time, and not with any noticeable pattern. I have had knee problems (I am pigeon-toed, so my knees turn in and do not rotate correctly, resulting in bone on bone where there should be cartilege and a very unpleasant grinding sound sometimes!), but my hips, ankles, shoulders, elbows, and wrists have never caused me any pain, but do " pop " and make sounds quite a bit. My orthopedic doctor said that the only thing he saw wrong with me was the knee issue, which could be the cause of my ankle & hip popping, since my legs are pretty much entirely mis-aligned, but no other issues. Sadly, after blathering on about my similar experience, the only advice I have to offer is a hot bath/shower after your workout. This really seems to relax my muscles and loosen everything up that may be feeling tight. Sounds generic and pretty standard, but I figured I would contribute! Good luck! Guest guest
Hi, I don't know where you live but I've just been going through this with my son. I can only tell you what the " expert " in my area shared with me at my son's recent re-evaluation. We live near Ann Arbor so he was seen at U of M Developmental Disorders Clinic. There is a form of High-Functioning Autism called Aspergers. It can include aggressive behavior as part of the problem. My son is considered a mixed bag with features of both Aspergers and Classic Autism. Aspergers has components of Bipolar disorder with it - rapid emotional changes, mood instability, unpredictability, aggression. There are several medication routes you can take. Our doctor recommended trying SSRI's - Luvox, Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft. If your child tends to be hyperactive, don't try Prozac first. It can cause more irritability and hyperactivity - it did with our son. The doctor also said that there is no magic pill he could suggest - most of the time the kids build up a tolerance to whatever medication they are on. If you go to a psychiatrist and they suggest a mood stabilizer such as Seroquel or Risperadol be forewarned that they will work for awhile but your child is likely to gain 30 to 40 pounds. Then you will have a child that is even more difficult to physically manage. I can tell you that I had to pull my son out of regular inclusion with an aid and place him in a day treatment center (school for Emotionally Impaired children). This is considered a " no-no " by most autism specialists and parents but so far, they've really been able to help my son. It is true that the other kids pick on him and are less tolerant of his behaviors than normal children but there are only ten children in the class, three aids, a teacher and a social worker. Nothing gets out of hand. Also, he gets a class in anger management four days a week. The staff use every chance the get to help him slow down his temper and to think things through. A regular school just cannot offer this kind of support. The day treatment center is run by the Intermediate School District and costs me nothing out of my pocket. I would guess if it were a private institution, I'd be looking at 45,000 to 80,000 a year. Your school district may have such a facility run by your county only nobody talks about it (my son's psychiatrist told me about it, not the public school staff). I hope that helps. Good luck... do what you can to get you and your son support now. -Eleanor > > I have a question about my son, he is eight years old. Guest guest
JJ started this when he was 12- He is 14 now and is doing MUCH better!!!!!! His was "Hormone" related. Once he got over the hormone thing he has been doing good. He also takes 0.5mg of resperdal. That has helped him alot too. Guest guest
JJ has been on resperdal for a year and is 14 and weighs a whopping 75 pounds!!!!!! Not all the kids gain a lot of weight. Depends on the child. It also helped him with the agression. Lois Eleanor wrote: > Hi, > > I don't know where you live but I've just been going through this with my > son. Guest guest
Has his routine changed? He may be acting out due to frustration, not understanding, not fitting in.... there is a whole string of reasons. Look at routine, diet, school activities, change in teacher's routine. If you need to call me please feel free. ph is on the high-functioning end as well. Marilyn Upton -----Original Message-----From: goldie536@... Guest guest
I agree, mine is 12 and weighs a whopping 65 lbs! He is on adderoll, and has been for 3 years now. I take him on in the summer time and over long holiday periods, but during school it really helps with focusing. Some activities will never be focused on because that is what autism/asbergers is all about - lack of auditory processing! -----Original Message-----From: Lois Noland [mailto:jlois@...]Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2001 8:14 PMautism Subject: Re: questionJJ has been on resperdal for a year and is 14 and weighs a whopping 75pounds!!!!!!
