The World Health Organization (WHO)and I'm sure there is other

research available, stating just this. That Crohns (sp) disease has

been mentioned as a symptom of mold exposure. That would include

IBS, (there is another illness or disease that I can't think of the

name of, that is along the same line) and they have found this to be

caused by a fungal colonization in the intestines. (Fungalbionics)

Is IBS linked to other diseases?

http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/ibs/

IBS itself is not a disease. As its name indicates, it is a syndrome—

a combination of signs and symptoms. But IBS has not been shown to

lead to any serious, organic diseases, including cancer. Through the

years, IBS has been called by many names, among them colitis, mucous

colitis, spastic colon, or spastic bowel. However, no link has been

established between IBS and inflammatory bowel diseases such as

Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.

IBD

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Any type of digestive condition caused by bowel inflammation

Leaky gut syndrome

Symptoms of Leaky gut syndrome / Intestinal permeability

Symptoms include: abdominal pain, asthma, chronic joint pain,

chronic muscle pain, confusion, fuzzy or foggy thinking, gas,

indigestion, mood swings, nervousness, poor immunity, recurrent

vaginal infections, skin rashes, diarrhea, bed-wetting, recurrent

bladder infections, poor memory, shortness of breath, constipation,

bloating, aggressive behavior, anxiety, fatigue, feeling toxic.

Raises some questions doesn't it???????

Leaky gut syndrome is associated with the following conditions:

Autoimmune disease

Celiac disease

Crohn's disease

Environmental illness

Hives

Acne

Allergies

Inflammatory joint disease / arthritis

Intestinal infections

Pancreatic insufficiency

Ulcerative colitis

Giardia

Chronic fatigue syndrome

Eczema

Psoriasis

Food allergies and sensitivities

Liver dysfunction

Rheumatoid arthritis

Irritable bowel syndrome

Causes of Leaky Gut Syndrome / Intestinal Permeability

Chronic stress

Intestinal infections

Small intestine bacterial overgrowth

Environmental contaminants

Excess alcohol

Poor diet

NSAIDS and other medications

How does leaky gut syndrome develop?

http://www.caringmedical.com/symptoms/condition.asp?

condition_id=1039

Inflammation of the lining of the gut appears to be the root cause

of leaky gut syndrome. This inflammation may have many catalysts,

including prescription hormones (such as birth control pills and/or

hormone replacement therapy) and prescription corticosteroids (such

as hydrocortisone); antibiotics; and processed foods and drinks that

contain parasites, mold or fungus. Large amounts of refined

carbohydrates such as chocolate bars, cookies, soft drinks or white

bread; an increased intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

(NSAIDs), which results in a shortage of important enzymes; or an

increased usage of caffeine and alcohol may also be involved. As a

result of the excessively porous gut wall, harmful microorganisms

are able to enter the circulatory system. This in turn can lead to

many systemic inflammatory and immune-related symptoms and

conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis,

multiple sclerosis, eczema, Crohn's disease, fibromyalgia, Raynaud's

disease, chronic urticaria (hives) and inflammatory bowel disease.
