Guest guest
Does anyone know a good psychiatrist in or near Bergen County, NJ? My son is 9 and 1/2. Thanks, JoAnne Sorry I don’t know but you might call your state Autism society and ask them. Also, if you state has an online group you might want to join and ask them. Good Luck, Gail
Guest guest
I've used Dr Dawson with my daughter for some problems with anxiety. We really liked her. She didn't medicate until it really became necessary but even before that she did several test to make sure that there would be no reactions from the medication. Then she was pretty quick about taking her off. She was really concerned and wanted to involved the entire family with her treatment. She made feel at ease and was easy to talk to. She was very thorough. I would recommend her any day. Deborah -- psychiatrist Because of insurance, I have to choose between 2 psychiatrists - Dr. Ho or Dr. Dawson - for my 13 year old PDD/anxiety/tic disorder child. Does anyone have any experience or feedback on either? Thanks!

Guest guest
Deborah, Thank you for the information. Do you remember what sort of tests Dr. Dawson did to ensure there would be no reactions from the medication? What meds did you try? Did your daughter have a negative reaction to the medication and have to be taken off the medication? Thanks! > > I've used Dr Dawson with my daughter for some problems with anxiety. > We really liked her. Guest guest
Good morning everyone! Wanted to ask if anyone has used a psychiatrist for their kids behavior issues? Our current neurologist has said he doesn't know what else to do for us and that's our only option. Why am I resistant to this? is 18 now and I just have no more ideas. I am tired of everyone complaining about him, calling me at work asking me to make him behave etc. The bus driver even brought him back yesterday for me to deal with! Sometimes even I can't get him to listen - he's too big for childhood punishments etc . I want him to be independent and I know he is many times trying to make his own decision. I guess I'm just tired. If it was just poor decisions that would be one thing BUT his main issues are going out of his way to torment others - do everything someone has asked him not to - defiant type things. So does anyone use this type of doctor? Have you had any success? Know what I should look for? Thanks as always for any input! Guest guest
We have our first appointment with a psychiatrist for Logan next week. He is now 10 and has been in our home for exactly 4 years. We got the walking and talking down. He is such a joy in so many ways, but the behaviors which we had hoped would decrease with time and consistency have not. We have to be very careful when we take him around younger children, he just likes to hit or push them. He is constantly digging his nails in our hands or arms. He has many impulsive behaviors that we just aren't sure he is able to control. We are also having him assessed by the Autism unit at our school (another long story). Two weeks ago we put him in respite for the weekend. This is a woman who got certified just for Logan but is now very busy with other families. She has a 5 yr old also with ds. She was to have him from Friday evening until Sunday evening. She knows him and his behaviors and his aggressive actions. My last words to her Friday as she drove away were, " Please watch him around your son. " Well, Saturday morning I got a call from her that she needed Logan to come home because she had to take her son to ER. Logan had hit him repeatedly with a toy. The situation is that she had left to take a shower. Her son was in his crib and Logan was watching his favorite Dino show. There was a baby gate up on the bedroom door. Well, Logan very easily climbed the gate and got into the crib. Then he apparently hit the little boy on the head several times causing bumps, bruises and a bloody nose. Later that week I got a note from the school that he was hitting the kindergarteners on the playground. My question was.. WHY is he on the kindergarte playground and WHERE is his one on one? Same thing with lunch room behaviors.. .. he has a one on one.. why is he able to get into so much trouble. Anyway... Dawn, I would be very interested in hearing what you decide to do and what the outcome is. I am going down the same path.
