Guest guest
It is great to have you in the group. I for one, love to listen to the experiences and advice of our more seasoned parents who have children with autism. What I am about to say I do not want to take away for all the hard work that you and other parents have done. I have to say that I do respect the 's for coming forward and saying and doing something. If they did not then people would say, " look at those wealthy people with all the money they could have done something " I do not think that folks should be judged by how much fortune or lack of fortune they have. The 's could have just " taken care of their own " so to speak and NOT made any attempts to do anything. I know the 's about as well as I know anyone else on the list. Whether I agree with how anyone decides to advocate for their and all autistic children in the community. We are all in it for our children we are all at different incomes and stages. Guest guest
Get yourself a mountain bike and put some hybrid tires on it. I have found that biking gives me the kind of interval training we are looking for, though I do tend to do more than 20 minutes. Guest guest
I got a bike about six weeks ago. I¹m having problems running, my dog likes running with me, but my knees couldn¹t handle it. So I got a bike. I kind of feel like Pee Wee. Anyway, the last bike I had was an orange Schwinn Varsity in 1973, so this has been quite a stretch for me. The first thing I did was get the cleats caught and fall on my butt. The second thing I did was get my cleats caught and fall on the other cheek. So here I am, 47 years old with two scraped knees, two scraped elbows and the one thing you never forget, I forgot. Well, tomorrow, I¹m going on a 28 mile ride in the hills with a friend of mine and if I don¹t get my HIIT¹s, I¹ll go to the gym and do my 20 minutes on the stair master later in the day. I¹m excited like a little kid, so I¹d say try a bike, but get some knee pads. ;-) And there is no basement in the Alamo. Guest guest
Welcome, Cortney. Thanks for sharing your story. Congratulations to your brother too. I always wonder if it's OK to talk to relatives about BFL... I think I'll just stock up on the BFL books, then give them away. The books remain like dormant seeds...available to grow when the individual factors are right. You'll get there; one little decision at a time, day after day. The rest of us are all doing the same M. > > Hello All, > > I am new to the group. > > My brother gave me BFL for Women a year ago. He lost 100lbs using > the BFL original book. Guest guest
So you have not ridden a bike in years and started out with clips?...lol....yeah, you'll fall down that way. I'm trying to convince myself to upgrade to 'clipless' but am worried about falling. I just got home from a 34 mile ride, up and down hills, at least three times I 'knew' I could not go any farther, I was at my 10 for sure! And it took me three hours...geeze I'm slow! Guest guest
I got home about an hour ago. We started at 7:15, road 14 miles and stopped for donuts and coffee (today is my free day) and road back. My friend told me on the way back that the route (minus the coffee and donuts) was the old test route that the US Olympic Team used to use back in the 70¹s. I hit my 10 and my 11 and 12 and I hit the wall and bonked and everything else...but I finished. Some gals went by me at one point and said something that inferred familiarity with the route and I gasped, ³it¹s my first time!². They were at the end hootin¹ and hollerin¹ for me. That felt great. Guest guest
Yes, I¹ve seen those. I¹m pretty sure Doberman Dawn the Dremel guru has a page about those. Unfortunately, my fierce protection dog is afraid of my bicycle. He¹s also afraid of the wind, it¹s been windy the last couple of days and he¹s been pretty much up my butt hiding from the wind. Guest guest
Yes. I have a friend who is a triathelete, as is her husband who actually does all the research and she told me to get ³lollipops² and then couldn¹t tell me any more about them! I found them, but figured out that I had the wrong shoes and cleats for my SPD¹s, so I switched to a multi-release and loosened the tension on the pedal and it¹s been good since then. Guest guest
Are these designed for road bikes? I'm on a mountain bike and I've heard that people put mt bike pedals on their road bikes, but not the other way around. b. > > >So you have not ridden a bike in years and started out with > >clips?...lol....yeah, you'll fall down that way. > > > >I'm trying to convince myself to upgrade to 'clipless' but am worried > >about falling. > > > -- > No virus found in this outgoing message. > Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. > Version: 7.1.394 / Virus Database: 268.8.3/360 - Release Date: 6/9/2006 >
Guest guest
Yeah, but think how much harder the hills would have been without clipless. On platform pedals you don't get any " pull " when your foot goes up. And I keep having my feet come off the pedals at un-fortunate times. I really need to bite the bullet and get clipless. b. > > > >> >So you have not ridden a bike in years and started out with > >> >clips?...lol....yeah, you'll fall down that way. > >> > > >> >I'm trying to convince myself to upgrade to 'clipless' but am worried > >> >about falling. > > > > >
Guest guest
Hey, Diane, thanks for this link. These look like great pedals and I see they can be used on road bikes as well. After 5 years of riding clipless I still have occasional falls from not getting clipped out in time. These look really smooth and easy. When my current ones need replacing I'm definitely looking into these. Logic question: How come clipless pedals are called clipless, since their use depends on the clip/cleat mechanism? I've pondered this for years. Ellie > > http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category= & subcategory= & brand= & sku=12125 & store\ type= & estoreid= & pagename= > > I use " frog " pedals.
