Guest guest
Hi Marla, Welcome to the group. I hope that you learn, learn from some people's personal life, and just have a good time in this group. Your son is almost as old as me. I'm 19, and I'm in McKinney, Texas- near Dallas and Arlington. I'm a college student majoring in early childhood education. I know someone with Down Syndrome and she might be in middle school I'm not sure. I can give her parent's e-mail to you if you want to. I've been babysitting Autistic children for almost 2 years now, and I've been babysitting for 6 years. I think I might have some questions for you about . Trey is a cool name, it's already on my baby list. Guest guest
First of all welcome to the group. Next, what's your name? Finally if it is getting more difficult you may need a change. Change weight exercises, change aerobic exercises, change diet. A new favorite meal. add salmon regularly or tuna. Cut your carbs to half a portion in your last two meals for three days. Add a cardio to your free day for a week. Take a week off. Have an ice cream cone at lunch for the next five days. Just some thoughts. Change helps destroy plateaus. Congratulations on your success! It's nice to have someone join with some experience to share! What have you learned so far that helps to keep you inspired? All the best! Guest guest
My name is Bob. Thanks for the ideas, I change weight exercises every three weeks. I use the BFL program off their webpage. I will try some of the meal ideas you gave me. I think the early success helped to keep me motviated at first. I exercise with a group of guys every morning and if you miss they let you know about it the next day. I also have a 5 year old daughter and when I started having blood pressure problems I realized I needed to change my lifestyle so I could be around to share in her life as she grew up. I have noticed a lot of improvement in strength. I also have a greater deal of endurance. It really has made a difference in my life. I found out that I could be disciplined in my physical life. I'm 45 and never had been disciplined before. It is a great feeling. I just want to get healthy and look good at the same time. Again, thanks for the response and sharing your ideas with me. Guest guest
Hi I am also new to this group and my daughters OCD also began in December last year. My daughter is 11 and also appears to be very mild (at this point) Apart from the initial period at the beginning there were lots of tears then ,great distress and a great lack of sleep, things are quite Ok now. We are doing CBT with a very caring therapist, the " homework " for it is easy, Our daughter finds no difficulty facing the rituals and has no anxiety being exposed to them but she does find facing the " bad thoughts " very distressing. Her comments to me just yesterday were, that she finds the rituals just annoying and the thoughts are getting less. She copes at school just fine anything that she just has to do isnt all that weird and not noticed by anybody, so either this CBT is working, our therapist believes we can beat this as we caught it early and we have no need for medications. Anyway I guess time will tell. OCD is taking up more of my time than my daughters as I spend a great deal of time on the computer looking and searching for information. I probably havnt been much help to you as I'm new but welcome anyway. Guest guest
Hi Tara. Welcome to the group! Just curious, have you read the book and done the Q & A in Crossing the Abyss and Focusing Your Future Vision? That is what made the difference for me. I started and quit twice before I stuck with it to the end last August. The only thing I did differently was to sit down and really honestly answer those questions. I read my goals every single day and visit this board often to stay inspired, even 8 months later. One other thought, if you are doing cardio every day, you may be burning out a few weeks into it because of overtraining. A lot of people have tweaked the program with extra cardio, and actually found that they get better results just following the 3 days per week that the book recommends. As far as frozen meals that fit the right protein-to-carb ratio, just read the labels and try to find ones that are equal in protein and carb grams. I use frozen meals occasionally myself for convenience's sake, but try to stick with whole foods because those frozen dinners have an awful lot of sodium in them. Good luck to you, and keep us posted on your progress! Jen B.

Guest guest
Dear Wayne, You are suffering from a deficiency in vitamins and minerals, with a toxic buildup that it plugging your lymph (causing swelling). 1) Do a liver cleanse. If you don't have the info, I will email it to you. 2) Start taking 2 oz of flax oil daily, with cottage cheese or yogurt. 3) Take 2 raw eggs daily 4) Take one brewer's yeast tablet with every meal, and niacin 5) Take B12 sublingual tablets 6) Take Flora calcium/magnesium/Vitamin D/zinc, three times per day 7) Take 2 Vitamin E capsules daily, each 400 IU 8) Juice cranberries, oranges, cantaloupe and guava and drink daily. You might want to mix in the eggs and flax oil and make a smoothie with yogurt 9) Do ozone saunas every other day for two months 10) Eat a big salad at least once a day and put in at least 8 vegetables besides the lettuce. Put some sunflower seeds and pecans on the top. Use sunflower or olive oil as dressing. 10) Change doctors and throw away the poison he prescribed. Best of Health! Guest guest
Jim, You are soooo right on. I have taken my health into my own hands and I swear I know more than the average doctor out there. It's really sad when you think about it. I hope people realize this and stop getting themselves into worst trouble than need be. By the time I was 19 years old I had two shoe boxes full of medications I was taking for various diseases. That year I luckily found the ERA clinic in Phoenix that follows Edgar Casey treatments. I slowly got off all the drugs and got my health back. It's been 25 years since then and I have used allopathic doctors for the stitches, etc., but I have had my babies at home and use ND's for illnesses over my head. I am the only woman in my family and a lot of friends that has had easy non invasive births and I am the only one that has not had complications...no big surprise. The bottom line is we are responsible for educating ourselves and making educated decisions, not trusting a medical establishment that is brain washed and bought out by the drug companies. I'm not familiar with Nautalis or Cybex machines, but I " m sure they are fine as long as you are hitting your 10s on all the muscle groups. There are a lot of bowflex users on this list I know. I *personally* like my free weights. A.) they are cheap and B.) I feel like I get a better work out with them. I think it's a personal decision myself. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi <insert name here> and welcome to the group! That's great that you are already noticing your clothes becoming looser. In answer to your questions... if you miss a workout, just go on to the next one, don't try to make it up. If you miss one, you miss one, so what? Just move on and keep pluggin' away at it. As far as free weights vs. machines, just do whatever you are most comfortable with. Machines are great to teach newbies the proper form for each exercise, while free weights work more of the supporting (or " stabilizing " ) muscles, which makes you stronger overall. I used machines for about a year when I started weight training when I was a teenager, then moved to free weights. Honestly I enjoy the free weights much more, but that's just my opinion. Guest guest
Wayne, I have to agree with Saul, get a new doctor! The one you have is eventually going to kill you with his advice, and unable to perform, you will die someday without one of life's few blessings. If you doubt the truth of what I say, just look at the statistics of men in your condition following your protocol. How many of them survive or can get it up? Many years ago a doctor wanted to put me on tranquilizers & antidepressants to control migraine. I told the doc, " OK, but I have read that long-term use of those drugs leads to impotence. I guarantee that the very first signs of trouble in that area of my life, and I will stop taking your pills the same day! " It did, and I did. Then, I started out on my own health quest, and I have been doing better at it than ALL of the DOCTORS in my life COMBINED!! To unclog your arteries, drink 5 glasses a day of apple cider vinegar & honey daily, do the Bragg recipe: unfiltered, unpasterurized, raw honey & the vinegar HAS to have the " mother " in it. One tsp each in a glass of water, to taste. Just get Bragg brand vinegar at the HFS when you buy the UNHEATED honey. INnsist on Really Raw Honey brand, but take what you can in the meantime. This will clean out your arteries & your kidneys in about a year, or so. Arterial plaque buildup is a Ph thing. Your Ph has to be WAY WAY off kilter to be depositing alkalines in the arteries! I don't know offhand why they give nitroglycerin for heart patients, but get something else without nitrates, even if it doesn't work as well, so you can take Viagra, so at least you can boogie til you're well! I had congestive heart failure and was more impotent than you are. (If the heart doesn't pump enough blood for the brain, why would it waste any on genitals?) Viagra is a nuisance in the sense of timing taking it. It doesn't lend itself too well to spontanaity, but it works gangbusters until you get your own health back on track! Another thing I have realized about erectile function in men is this: It ALL depends on genital micro-circulation! (that's what Viagra does) So, when a person walks they are concentrating their exercise -- and their blood flow -- in the nexus of that exercise: the crotch, center of the walking experience. SO, walking/bicycling as exercise is CRITICAL for a man to get/keep his erectile function. Need I say more? I would advise against using herbal viagra substitutes at this point in your health, because nothing much is known about how they affect YOUR health condition. I am refering to the more potent ones, like yohimbe, not adaptogens like ginseng. A question that answered a lot for me regarding allopathic medical practices is this: If your auto mechanic never got your car running well any time you took your car to him, wold you keep going to him for auto repairs. When I ask this question of people cold, they look at me like I was crazy! " Of course not! " They invariably exclaim. But, then I ask why they do that with an infinitely more important vehicle, one they can't replace -- their body's health?!?!?!????? If you break a leg, go to an allopath. If you are in a car wreck & get busted up, go to an allopath. If you swallow an open safety pin, GO TO AN ALLOPATH! BUT, if you get ANY common disease or disorder, you have to be a fool to take it to an allopath, except for tests. They are great at measuring things. They just have NO idea how or why the body works, what makes it sick, or what can make it well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 'Nuff said! When you tell your doctor you can't get an erection, he doesn't really care. He won't tell you this, because it would hurt your feelings. But, all he REALLY cares about specifically is that you don't die of a heart problem on his watch! He considers loss of erections to be part of the plan for people with heart conditions on his medications. He doesn't grasp how important orgasm itself is to human health! DOCTORS ONLY PAY ATTENTION TO THE DISEASE THEY ARE TREATING!!! Which is why they are almost guaranteed to fail overall. ONLY YOU are in your body when you are miserable! Only you will be there when you are happy. As I experience my death rattle, and hear the last breath expell from my lungs, I want to know I didn't wind up there because I followed SOMEONE ELSE'S FOOL ADVICE! One fool is enough in my life! jim waynetg wrote: > > Hello group, I am a 53 y/o male, having problems getting an erection. I had > a heart attack in 1991, stress-related. is what the doctor said. Guest guest
Hi Gail, and welcome! Don't worry about your previous attempt at BFL not working out, lots of people have tried several times before they are successful. Remember, you are only a failure if you stop trying! As far as workout times, I would do it whenever you are least likely to flake out on it from being tired or stressed, which would probably be before work, even though you work nights. Another thing to remember, the better health you are in, the more energy you will feel and the more quality your time with your family will have. As far as meals go, there are lots of options. Here are a few proteins that I use: chicken (just like you), salmon, tuna, cottage cheese, Myoplex shakes, MRBs (meal-replacement bars like EAS' Simply Protein, Labrada Lean Body bars, etc.), protein powder, and *occasionally* lean hamburger, lean steak, low-sodium lunch meats. For carbs, I stick to fruits, yogurt, milk, brown rice, and *occasionally* whole wheat bread, whole wheat tortillas. Keep us posted on your progress Gail and feel free to ask any other questions you have! Hope this helps. Guest guest
Sandee: what about the BEACH center on disabilities? I don't know if they're big into the dual diagnosis, but it's worth a call. I think they are on or next to the KU campus in Lawrence. Ann and Rud Turnbull are the executive diretors and have a son with autism. BTW, where are you in KS? I graduated from K-State while my husband was at Fort Riley. Are you saying that at age 23 you are seeing a regression for the first time? What is it that you are seeing in your daughter? Chicoine and Dennis McGuire from the Adult Down Syndrome Center cite regression as something they see in adults as the first symptom of some sort of problem (depression, physical problem, trouble coping with something, and so on). So if you take her to a doctor, don't accept a glib diagnosis of alzheimer's Disease, OK? Let us know a little more about what's going on. Try the Beach center on disabilities. http://www.beachcenter.org/ See if they can help you find a direction. Guest guest
To the new member from Kansas? Welcome - I am more of a lurker here in Washington DC - mostly due to sheer lack of time to devote more of it to this list, but I read it all, with my heart joyous for the accomplishments and positive things we all so need to hold on to and also with my heart heavy for us that have challenges and our children most of all that have to cope with so much. I hope you find this an informative and supportive place. As for Kansas and resources? There may be many Kansas families out there, but from my experience with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Porter Graham Child Development Center? The connections and mutual respect and admiration was great for the UK Beach Center. My old boss was and maintains a deep friendship with Ann Turnbull at the center. Ann has an autistic son. She and her husband have written many books and headed research in lots of areas - support among parents and families; family-centered care practices, etc. I would encourage you to check out possibilities there. Good luck and we are all thinking of you and your daughter. -Ann in Washington, DC
