Guest guest
My first Rx of CSM was Questran and it was sugar free. But the sweetner it used was aspartame, which I can't tolerate. Now I get mine customized by a compounding pharmacist familiar with Dr Shoemaker. Hopkinton Drug in MA. 800-439-4441. I get it with no additives including no sweetner. I can add mine own sweetner as needed, even rotating it like in a food rotation diet. Guest guest
Carl, How does it mix up? Is there alot of grit to it. I am pretty tough, but geez mine is so thick and gritty it is just gross. If you dont mind me asking is the cost in the same ball park? Thank you, Re: [] Re: Different manufacturers of CSM > My first Rx of CSM was Questran and it was sugar free. But the > sweetner it used was aspartame, which I can't tolerate. Guest guest
, It isn't instantly dissolved like sugar or Tang. Let it sit several 10 minutes or even overnight. It soaks up a lot of water and some of it will go to the bottom as " glop " but mix with more water or juice. The amount taken into the body is more important than how thick or thin it is when you drink it. I make mine as thin or thick as I prefer, using whatever sweetener and/or juice I prefer. (For specific instructions check with you prescribing doctor - I am not one!) Someone else asked why they aren't put into capsules - I don't know but because it soaks up so much water and seems to expand in size it may not be desirable for it to do that inside your body (?) Guest guest
I thought about the capsule idea, too, Carl. I do hate drinking that stuff! But it seemed to me, if the body is primarily water, and the CSM is going to bind on one end to the first water it encounters, you probably would not want that happening inside your body. If you left it bind to water you would otherwise drink, you can be assured it didn't randomly attach itself to any bodily fluids along the way and turn them into CSM Glop. (Gotta pick your battles, I guess.) FWIW, you can put CSM in a half-filled bottle of whatever liquid you prefer with a funnel and just shake it up. (That's shaken, not stirred. ; ) If it settles, you just shake it up again before partaking. I don't know how long this mixture will " keep " , but I try to get a week's supply together whenever I can stand up long enough to do it and stash it in the fridge. I let it warm to room temp before shaking it again and drinking it, myself. But I guess that part depends on whether you like your gritty glop cold. I do wonder what effect (if any) drinking it cold or warm might have on the fat molecules it's about to bind with, but have confined my experiments to making it as palatable and easy to mix as possible. One other issue came up with this, for me. That's the ease with which the CSM powder gets airborn while mixing. It irritates my nose, throat, and lungs, and I noticed I was apparently giving myself a nice case of bronchitis every time I mixed the stuff. It was suggested to me that a simple painter's mask or the kind you can get at the pharmacy will take care of that problem very nicely. The CSM is a large particle (which is how it works), so it doesn't need anything fancy to filter it out. The fact that CSM sticks to teeth even after it's been thoroughly mixed with water makes me think it's seeking out any fat molecules that were already stuck to or between my teeth. So yuk - now we get dental glop, too. I don't have problems with aspartame, but the sorbitol I use with the CSM not only keeps it from caused some real world class constipation, it's a sugar alcohol used as a sweetener. That seems to work really nicely for me, and since CSM doesn't bind with acohols I get a double benefit and call it a winner. On the bright side, I guess we could say it's downright elegant in its simplicity...or something like that. If you overlook the glop thing <G>. " Carl E.
