Guest guest
Dear Sirs, In light of the current conditions in New Orleans and suffering throughout the United States I feel it is my duty to send to you my story of toxic mold illness. I have been working in the basement of an office building for almost 9 years. I have constantly complained about the conditions there as water leaks into the space frequently when it rains. As a consequence, copious amounts of mold has grown, been removed by everyday means, regrown, and so on. There are many people who work there that are ill with autoimmune diseases, and few of them know the cause. The company frowns upon those challenging their authority: those working there are afraid to complain for others who have in the past have been terminated. I have had psoriasis for many years. When I began working in said building, I did not have arthritis. Since that time, I have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, and frequently my fingers swell up to inanimate proportions. I simply thought of it as a continuation of the psoriatic condition, but have only recently come to realize it is as a result of the toxic environment in the building in which I work. I have developed mental acuity issues, noticeable visual changes, occasional slurred speech, night sweats, shortness of breath, fatigue, chronic sinus congestion, sinus pain, clogged ears, closing throat, trouble assimilating new knowledge, trouble with math, and a marked loss of libido. Over the course of the years, my health has steadily declined. Earlier this year my symptoms hit an all time high, I hit an all time low, and that's when I started researching mold illness. The mental issues and depression from not being able to function as normal hindered my efforts to educate myself. My persistence and determination fueled by my desire to make myself well has kept, and continues, to keep me going. Through countless hours of research I have come to the conclusion I believe any reasonable, rational person would: TOXIC MOLD CAUSES HUMAN ILLNESS. It is undeniable in study after study. A recent example is an NIH study published 2005. It too makes clear the link to toxic mold and illness. By sending those people back into New Orleans we are sending them toward impending doom. Unprotected by either knowledge or material, the clean up process is going to expose them at worst to life threatening but at least to life altering levels of toxins. Our government needs to do more to recognize, educate, and help itself and the public to understand the dangers and illnesses associated with toxic mold. I do not feel the government is acting to protect its people as it is bound by the constitution to do. In light of overwhelming evidence, there are still no levels defining maximum safe exposure or air levels for toxic mold as we do for many other substances. The time is now to get the ball rolling. We all understand the liability associated with simple recognition that toxic mold is a dangerous substance to many industries is enormous. We cannot let that stop us from getting to the truth and helping the American people. The truth simply is. No matter how we try to alter or otherwise spin it, hide it, or bury it, the deception will eventually erode leaving only one thing: TRUTH! For all those suffering, let us work together to expedite the process.
