Guest guest
, So glad that we have lowered cholesterol at the expense of billions of dollars of reallocated medical funds for drugs, and massive deleterious effects of the statin drugs destroying the quality of life for millions of Americans. On the other hand, can it be that the diet-heart-cholesterol hypothesis is a lie hiding in the open? Liars, liars, pharmaceutical stock dividends on fire. (And our own supposedly fiscally conservative administration give a gazillion dollars to Medicare for drugs but cuts chiropractic reimbursement. It’s enough to turn a Republican blue!) Don’t take my work for it: “The Cholesterol Controversy” Pinckney, MD co-editor JAMA “The Cholesterol Myths” Uffe Ravnksov, MD, PhD We recently scanned in an article from CAM Magazine in England by Dr Natasha -McBride who holds a Degree in Medicine and Postgraduate Degrees in both Neurology and Human Nutrition. It’s title is: Time to get Scientific: let’s scrap the diet-heart- cholesterol hypothesis”. If anyone wants a copy, I will email it to you. ( E. Abrahamson, D.C.) Guest guest
I would love a copy . As a democrat, this stuff makes me red in the face. More people dying, getting less healthy, and told to follow a number like it's the only thing we have controle over. Is anybody worried that we are becoming less healthy while overall fat consumption has been reduce by 30 percent since the 70's? Just two 30 min workouts per week does more to decrease your OVERALL chance of death than controling cholesterol. Guest guest
I appreciate the article from Dr. Fuchs regarding the "primary care physician" shortage. While we have the debate internally in the Oregon chiro profession as to whether we are "primary care physicians", I see the naturopaths moving quite along (see article below) and fulfilling a market need/role. I was told that there was a survey performed in the 90's (before my time in Oregon) asking Oregon DC's as to whether they were interested in additional training and then proposed legislation for limited prescription and primary care privileges. I was told it was about a 50/50 split of opinion, so all efforts got squelched. I wonder if we should perform another survey now of all Oregon DC's, to see whether there is any interest in additional DC training and push for legislation (akin to New Mexico's )for expanded scope and limited prescription privileges?? Guest guest
I was part of the Practice Act Committee that formed in the early ‘90s to discuss and then distribute a survey on this. I would have to dig around in my papers for how the survey came out (WSCC complied the results) but you are essentially correct the idea didn’t gel. WSCC tried to move along with the idea including hiring DO’s for the clinics but that eventually stopped. Same sort of split discussions mixers vs. straights – some bad feelings. Of course, the profession was reeling from WC reform and we didn’t have Vern at the helm. I feel that to be true Primary Care Providers vs. Portal of Entry types that we need to have the ability to prescribe some things. In all of the years that I have worked with injured people I have never once, not once, ever, had a person tell me that a DC was their Primary Care Provider. They may see a DC for specialized care but none has ever expressed that their see a DC for any ailment that might need to be addressed. One person said a Naturopath was their PCP but that is it. s. fuchs dc From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of G.
